    bad times - oil everywhere

Currently awaiting recovery, thought was finally getting sorted with S2 and getting it well sorted and doing the little jobs ive wanted to do for a while.

It hasnt been far for a couple of weeks so thought would give it a run today, but decided it didnt like oil anymore and emptied the entire contents down the road.

Fingers crossed once I get the leak fixed and can find it in the daylight it has done any major damage to the engine components.... understandbly a bit f**ked off so hoping I can get it sorted fairly easily. Only recently done the timing belt and water pump etc too.

Not that recently, back in december when it had service and MOT. Managed to get recovery quite quickly so will take a look at it over the next week or two and see if I can see what caused it to dump the oil in first place because was too dark to see this evening with rain too.

Likely candidates are oil filter, oil cooler or one of the feed pipes.

Thinks will probably need new big end bearings and a bit of an engine rebuild, but will just have to see when I get the leak fixed and some oil into it. Also hoping not damaged the turbo if it has had oil starvation. On the plus side was under light load today and wasnt being thrashed so hopefully that will be in my favour...

Well that sucks.. hopefully just a damaged oil cooler or pipe - they ain't cheap to fix but are cheaper than an engine rebuild if it cooked some bearings before the oil alarm came on - pretty unlikely I should think. Good luck getting that sorted.

Greg, I've got a spare aby cooler and pipes if you need, also maybe the one way valve has gone in the pcv system and blown the cam cover gasket out?

                            Fingers crossed..

Well I managed to get out there in the rain today and remove the oil cooler which looks to be the culprit. Damaged one of the oil feed pipes to it while removing it, but they were pretty much jammed solid. Newsh, let me know how much you'd want for it but would certainly like it. The current one was definetly shot, the casing was falling apart on the cores.

I had chucked a couple of litres oil in last night while the engine was warm in the hope it would help lubricate it all a bit, and drained it this morning to see if there any obvious metallic bits in it. There was one little bit that dropped out, but gonna have to wait and see. Not holding my hopes up at the moment, but will probably end up taking it off the road for a year to get a rebuild done if it comes to it and upgrade the rods at the same time. Will see if I can get a pic of the oiler cooler, but its in a bit of a sorry state, just got everything crossed it is ok when I get the new cooler fitted up.

Was gonna put some cheap oil in to start with and startup, and if all is ok use an engine flush and change filter and oil again.
