I definetly won't be fitting the windscreen thats for sure, I think I will call autoglass and see what they will charge to remove the windscreen and fit a new one when the time comes, the current one is chipped quite badly in places anyway. I hope with a fresh assembly leaks wont be a worry for a while.

I will update again later as the engine bay is nearly empty and as you can tell I like a thread with lots of pics

Glad your enjoying the read, im hoping to keep it updated right till the end with full documentation of the repairs.

if you can do it, try get a small bit of cheese wire or thin welding wire in between the glass and metal on the car then wrap the wire around a spanner or something and with a mate doing the same inside, do a sawing action to cut the screen out.

The other option is on ebay you should be able to get the tool to help remove the screen, like a stanley knife blade with a add on that lets you cut thru the bonding stuff.

Just hope it ain't been fitted with tiger seal, that stuffs mental trying to remove.

Tap the windscreen with a hammer to crack it then call Autoglass etc and tell the you'd like it removed but new one fitted after painting. They didn't charge me extra when i had mine done if it on your glasscover.

Is it worth trying this? knowing my luck I will slit my wrists in the process lol. I will see how many squids they want to remove it before trying myself.

if its the cheese wire one and you can get it behind then yes worth a shot with that as your hands will be away from the screen when doing the sawing.

Todays efforts got the engine bay bare, happiness

Just need to remove the pedal box and then everything is gone

I had a moment of madness and removed this lot never to be returned

I might make some tricky gussets for the chassis legs in place of those procon ten cast jobbies, there quite hefty those two lumps and make it a ball ache getting the steering rack out! Not sure there will be much benefit bracing the legs to the bulkhead?

Really flagging now! I think I will remove the subframes and lines under the car once the spit arrives, save me back a little. Just a few more bits to come off and its spit ready.

Anyone know how to remove the exterior A, B & C pillar trims?

A pillars are rivitted on, if you have a look at windscreen threads is says how to remove them.
b pillars - if you pull the door seal away its 4x rivits behind and it pulls outward then if need be 2x allen heads and 1x 10mm inside to remove glass
c pillars - do you mean the small trim at base of c pillar? if so they just push on, gentle leavering removes these.

Wow my huge collection of bits I don't need but may come in handy one day was worth alot more than I thought Been Ebaying like a mad man and I have some pennies in the kitty

I've also sold my S2 Interior, only a few bits left so if anyone needs anything PM me, there really is no going back now, stripped out beastie it is then!

A big, big, big thank you to DJH for stepping in with a donor coop shell for me just need to go and fetch it, pictures will follow

Small update then, since the weather has now decided it wants to be winter I've been confined to the garage twiddling me thumbs, got bored & started stripping the motor down :mischeif:

First impressions are that everything looks spot on inside, nothing nasty and no surface cracks in the combustion chambers, was to be expected really as the motor ran very well before coming off the road, its just the chassis couldn't really take it and the brakes were a bit scary lol.

Im wondering if its worth chucking a set of fresh bearings, forged rods, compression drop my pistons & tighten it all with some ARP fasteners while its on the stand, should allow me to bolt on a big boys turbo down the line. Whats a set of new rings for ABY pistons cost, ball park?

Piston ring info, page 2 has some good info regarding quality.

Fresh bearings and rods/fasteners sounds good if you can do it now. Do you need to drop the compression for the power level you are aiming for?

I will check that link out, cheers dude. I was thinking a bit of an engine overhaul would be wise, especially if it gets flogged on the track. Regarding power goals i dont really have any, I just know that the day will come around quickly where i want to up the power and lower compression will increase MBT and allow more boost on normal fuel so it wont limit the potential, I've spoilt everything with that damn A4, the way it spools makes everything else I drive seem sedate or broken!

I couldn't believe my luck, it was truly a god send really, can't thank him enough. But the plan is still to repair the original S2 shell, sounds stupid I know but you will see why plus the fact on paper my shell is an S2 no matter what its made up from lol. It will also makes insurance a bit easier as it wont be a transplanted coupe, not that it would bother me in the slightest as it wouldn't be any different.

I can feel this project running away with itself already! I'm merely a passenger.

                            Rods - aronmatic
piston rings - jp/rwd19t (cheaper and better than audi)
also worth asking him about the bearings etc, rs2 bearings, arp head studs.

And no problem, if you think of anything else you need let me know. Be good to see the shell used to make something of it rather than crushed.

I'm just pondering various engine options and getting some ideas around cost, wondering if its worth going the whole hog and getting some forged pistons whilst in there, I know the ABY pistons are forged also but the materials are different from the likes of JE. Decisions, decisions

pistons are good for around 850bhp, a couple of forum members have proved that, save your money and use it elsewhere

tbh inside the engine just change rods, bearings and headgasget, get some work done on the head i.e. port/polish etc and thats about all you need for decent power with these engines.
