    A few questions.

Recently bought 93 S2 avant of an old schoolmate. Although i have had quite a few S2,s by now none have really had any problems. Hence i have never needed to do any serious work on them this one needs a bit of TLC, nothing major though. First off, is it a real ballache to get the oil pan off with engine still in car? It has an oil leak, and i am narrowing it down to sump gasket... From what i can see it is dry above sump level, and it either leaks both front and back or it is at the front and the oil makes it's way to the back. First i thought it was the oil seal behind the flywheel, but it would probobly slip the clutch then? Second question. All my other S2,s have had oil preassure at around 1,5 bar at idle and 4,5-5 above say 2k rpm... This one however is at 1 bar at idle and just under 4 bar when driving... These readings are when engine is warm. Havent really looked when cold as it is stored at a mates house. If i rev it it at stand still to about 4k rpm it wil touch on 5 bar. My mate has had this car for 9 years before me, and it has always been the same afaik. Anything i should worry about?

    Cheers

        Thanks for replies.

Can't make any suggestions re your problem with this Avant, but am curious, as I have a lot of 'a bit damp' dust inside my gearbox's clutch bell housing - ABY Avant - and I'm not sure if my rear engine seal is weeping a bit even though it is a new genuine one.

I thought I'd read a thread on here which suggested tha the oem one wasn't perfect and that a alternative branded one might be a better bet, but can't find the thread right now.

Hence my interest in your current car's sump / oil issue.

        Well wear and kind regards.

The belly pan is still a pita to get off but I find 2 flat head screw drivers helps to get the middle clip undone...as far as the oil pressure goes, when mine is warm and on load it reads a full5 bar. On idle I can't remember but 1- 1.5 bar sounds about right but I honestly don't remember what mine reads. Mine could even read 2 bar on idle... I'm not sure.sorry bud.

To take the sump of you need to drop the sub frame, just a couple of bolts and it drops down enough to get the sump of. The Rear Allen key bolts are hidden up in the bell housing, And you need a long ball ended Allen key for that, preferably one that fits in a
Socket. They are the same size. You will also need Two sump gaskets.
Having said all that, make sure that it is leaking from the sump, because oil leaks from higher up always collect around the sump flange ,and its not always easy to find the route. Back of the rocker cover is the most common.

Well, im not sure... Neither is he. It's been stood for 4 years so he can't remember. I have always used q8 semi synth 10-40 oil and never had any issues. Any advice on what to use to get the preassure up a tad? It sonds and drives normal, no smoke or anything. Just reads low on gauge and has done ever since he bought it 9 years ago.

Here is a pic... Is anyone any good at photo shop? If so, could you please graft the orange porsches from my coupƩ on to it? And then a pic with the RS4,s off my A4? Don't know what wheels to put on it... Those are the ones i have got at the moment. Originals have studded tyres on them for winter use.

You will find pics of both wheels in the link in my signature...

Also changed to Fuchs 10w 50 having previously ran it on Semi Synth 10w 40. It seems to run slightly better and slightly quieter i think at tickover but maybe that is just psychological. Not noticed any big change in oil pressure on the gauge. Cannot really talk about oil temps as not given it a prolonged blast due to other issues (typical)

i run motul 300v 5w40 with 1.8 bar oilpressure on idle
maybe it's better that you measure the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge so
so you know that your electric meter indicates correct
