        So with a complete car (almost). It was time to get an MoT;

        Did it pass?

        Of course it did!

        And with that milestone completed, it was time to get the bodywork done. The car did have a few scabby bits;

        I wanted these areas repaired, plus the car required additional welding in the boot floor where the tow bar was once fitted. After that, a full respray. I considered a colour change, to either Tizian (Titan) Red or Graphite Black, both period URQ colours, but after consideration and cost evaluation, keeping it original seemed the best plan. I called some local bodyshops for quotes, but had not really seen much of their work. In the end I got in touch with Rob at Retroauto, Telford, as him and his father had not long worked on Coxy's 80q and also knew their way around old VAG cars. I'd seen their work before and was happy with their quote. After a few weeks, the car was collected by Rob;

        The expected turnaround was 2 months, and Rob kept me updated with the progress.

        It was decided that I'd have a repair panel fitted for the OSR wheel arch, and a new OS sill, as it had gone soft towards the front.

        It was found that the old sill had previously been repaired, but with 3/4 of a new genuine sill. Probably early on in the car's life;

        The rot was then dug out of the problem areas on the car;

        And then fresh metal applied;

        The old towbar hole in the boot floor;

        With the metalwork done, it was then time for prep. I requested that the rear arches be rolled for increased wheel clearance.

        More to follow!

            And then, fresh Alpinweiss;

            And after the sign off and deliver back home, here she is back at my unit;

            All I've done since, is protect and clean the paintwork;

            I then got some decals for it before I went on with wax;

            I also have new faded door rings too, but not applied as yet. These will be the last to go on.

              I've got an ABY for the car but I'm currently searching for parts to finish the project. The engine I've bought is a runner, but I'll rebuild it before using it.

              Glass is all fitted now and I've fitted & wired in a Hirschmann electric aerial. I've also cabled the car to run a B5 A4 bose sound system coupled to a modified VW Gamma head unit.

              Carpet is also now fitted leaving a shorter list of jobs:

              1) Plumb in headlamp washers & washer bottle.
              2) Cut & stick new door membranes & refit doorcards.
              3) Refit all dash plastics and console trim.
              4) Refit seats
              5) Repair/replace sunroof mech
              6) Replace clutch
              7) Modify exhaust to suit S2 subframe
              8) Fit mirrors and door mouldings
              9) 4 wheel alignment

              Progress pics:

              And here is my inspiration picture!

                              Great restoration, really glad you kept it Alpinweiss.
                              Will you keep the ABY "standard"?
