If someone purchases this, how do they tighten their crank bolt to the correct torque, if they can no longer lock the pully off?

Come on, you cant be this un-inventive.
I use screwdriver or similar on starter wheel, later made special tool from startter wheel part, welded bolt on to it and it locks it wery firm.
I ask again, my question was un aswered in all this non related **** in this topic
is CDN=CAD ? How much is postage to Finland?Comment

This is not a viable solution. If the this bolt is tightened to the correct torque, the flywheel teeth will snap (do a search on the forum). You can't put the car in gear, the workshop manual states this will strip the gearbox. It has also been suggested that the crank has twisted before. Audi put that locking tab there for a reason.
So forgetting the balancing question, as you could potentially get it balanced your self, how do you lock the crank???Comment

my teeth are in good condition, used many times, but only to open.
Using gearbox is fine, use straigh or higest gear and help it with brakes, handbrake also, that is bull **** you cant use gearbox to 450nm tightening, there is people that drives daily with those torgue numbers and they use it to move 1.5 ton car.Comment

there is a guy in my who used alu pully on his s2 and that caused engine brake down, and you also need the locking tool or else you wil destroy the lower camwheel it will cracalate.Last edited by zlobo; 2 December 2005, 14:48.ABT C5 Lord Of The Rings

Audi rally cars used an alloy front pulley, no locking tab on it, i have one.
The way to tighten it is by making a locking tool for the flywheel by speading the load over a number of teeth and hei presto job done. If you look at other manufactures that is the way thet do it and Sealy sell flywheel locking tool for various manufacturers but not for the Audi engine.
Alloy pulleys are nothing new.
I use the quote above from AnLe "Be inventive" and if you cannot be leave it alone and get an expert and not someone that thinks he is.AelredComment

Sure, Porsche has a tool for this very thing. The only prolem is, you have to have the engine out to do it. Not good for someone just replacing the pulley, with engine still in car. Or is there a tool that inserts into the inspection/sensor hole?Originally posted by aelredAudi rally cars used an alloy front pulley, no locking tab on it, i have one.

Yes, you are correct. Here is a shot of my friend's original A2 rallye car's crank pulley, not the best pic, you you get the idea.Originally posted by aelredAudi rally cars used an alloy front pulley, no locking tab on it, i have one.

You are so right!
Nice to see someone with creativity. There is always more than one way to get things done.
And yes, that is in Canadian dollars. Shipping would be around $40CAD, but I would give you a deal on the shipping costs!

I like your pulley, but I think you should lay off 'Steve', until you understand what he has posted.
