Basicly i think it makes no diffrence on the temp, only the tenght of the pipes from turbo to im makes a bit beter responce.Originally posted by |Maku|Lets say engine is at 90 degrees. Can you say what is intake temperature with your manifold and with stock manifold? And if you name some values, name some HP-s as well..ABT C5 Lord Of The Rings

Ummm. No
The plenum does make a very big difference to the airflow distribution to the cylinders...
This is why some taper...some are dual plenum and so on...
To try and get equal air distribution betweeen the cylinders....
Also, the air volume of the plenum is very important.
Runner diameter and length can dramatically affect the power delivery...Their diameter and length have an influence on the shape of the power curve. Using stock runners I would think would be a good thing to do.
The best test to do without having to flow test it would be to put an EGT prope on each exhaust manifold runner and measure individual cylinder EGTs....then you know if all are getting equal air or some are running lean.
IM looks nice though.....but what is its volume?Comment

Err no...Originally posted by HackeAll intake manifold who are based on standard runners is the same.. regardless witch plenum u have , mtm, 034, or home made even the ann im .. I claim that the only benefit whit this typ of IM is, shorter intercooler piping which brings quicker response
I am no expert on this, but using the standard runners will surely just limit the overall intake system to the same volumetric rate as the standard IM (assuming that the runners are or become the limiting factor).
As I am sure you know, the reason for bench flowing the IM is to show how balanced the 5 ports are, which shows how well the plenum(s) are working at balancing the air pressure and therefore getting the same amount of air into the furthest port as the nearest.
This is why we are all asking for flow rates, not for absolute but for relative flow values.

is the intake manifold not pressurised on a forced induction engine?
therfore surely all runners would get pretty much the same amount of air anyway ?
can see how flow rates would make a big differance on an N/A engine,
im by no means experianced in this field these are just my thoughts on the issue
shorter pipe run = less pressure drop = less lag = worthwhile modLast edited by WabTheKing; 25 September 2006, 10:29.

Internal combustion engine is definately not an air pressure system!!!
You can't think that when there is pressure (a-ha, vacuum is also pressure as it's only relative to other parts of the engine!) it solves any drawbacks in the engine design.
Think of air flow, not pressure. More air flow or less air flow, it should always be distributed equally to each cylinder. There is no exception to this and boosting doesn't change nor cure anything.
Boost is no unit to measure anything except leaks in boost pipes/hoses!
Absolutely none of the rules of how to build a good N/A engine can be forgotten when boosting it. None.
Dual plenum design is good starting point when the real life situations can not be simulated (about never). No flow bench testing by sucking air from one runner one at the time or pushing air to plenum and measuring at runners simulate the real life situation where flow is constantly divided on many runners and flow is pulsed because of valves opening etc etc etc.
Most of the current WRC cars use dual plenum design. Because they think it's fun to do it that way? Right.

so your saying the only real way to test a manifold is by actually fitting it and taking readings of it on a running engine by means of what was said above, ie using egt sensors on each port, and that a flow test on a bench is still "theoretical" test
so in hacke's defence if he has used a proven design his manifolds should be just as good as anyone elses?

Yes. I think the only way is to measure EGT on every cylinder. Without very very complex modelling tools that I presume factories are using.
I was not attacking Hacke. I want to provide the necessary point of view to prove wrong what's generally thought about boosting an engine and its relation to IM's.-Comment

like i said i dont know much about manifold design

I'm sorry but I do not agree with this statement. If you are so confident about your manifold then you should be happy to have it flow tested by an independant specialist who has the right flow testing equipment. If it is then proven to be a good design then you should sell loads of manifolds and recoup your testing costsOriginally posted by HackeAll intake manifold who are based on standard runners is the same.. regardless witch plenum u have , mtm, 034, or home made even the ann im ..

Flow testing IM's is still a good way to see any possible problem areas and if air flow is equal amongst all runners.
True, its not totally foolproof because as you say there are pulses caused by valves opening/closing ++ other factors seen only when the engine is running...
however...if IM Flow testing is good enough for VS Motor, 034 Motorsport and other top tuners....its good enough for me
