Aye, very true, Ford DOES own Volvo. But the only 5 cylinder "Volvo" engine that IS actually a true Audi unit is the 2,461cc IL5 TDI fitted to the Volvo 850 TDI and V70 TDI.

From memory, the V70 TDI used a VW Transporter box.

The Volvo / Ford IL5 petrol unit utilizes an Audi IL5 crankshaft, but the Volvo cylinder head will not bolt to an Audi engine, and the cylinder spacing (looking at both head gaskets) is not the same. Oil and waterways are also completely different.

I have never seen a Transporter gearbox, but I doubt that the V70 TDI uses it. Actually the TDI-gearbox looks very much like the petrol equvivalent exept from the bolt pattern:

          The TDI-gearbox to the left

I also find it somewhat hard to believe that the Audi crank fits in the Volvo engine, or that it is the same crank. Although I have never tried...

            Awesome stament! Congrats!
How in the hell can an engine with different cylinder spacing use another's crank?!
            Whoa

All alloy volvo engine in an Audi isn't that bad idea. Think about it.

Sorry, I should say "Audi derived crank". I doubt it would fit straight into an Audi block though.

Also, I'm not sure what bore size the Volvo uses.
