    Audi S2 Avant - 500 HP Project

This is a project thread about my 1995 S2 Avant

Stock external except RS2 front optic and tinted windows
    Lowered with H&R Springs
16" rims with 205/50/16 Conti tires

Under the hood is where the fun begins:

Engine rebuilt by myself @ 178000 km

    Verdi connecting rods
    RS2 main and rod bearings
ARP studs in the bottom of the engine and the connecting rods
Special refurbished camshafts with "secret" lift and duration
Turbonetics T60-1 with KKK 10" Housing
    Custom intercooler with 2½" piping
Custom exhaust with 100-cell cataclytic converter
    RS2 head gasket
    Rebuilt head
    Custom exhaust header
Removed service channels in the intake manifold
    Tuned by Turbocenter
Single-mass flywheel with 4-puck sinter and an 6-geared S6 transmission
New rear diff (oops, 100 takeoffs in a summer will do that to you)
    And lots more..

    Performance so far:
0-60 with 2 persons in the car and a full tank of gas: 3.5 seconds
    0-100 km/h with above circumstances: 3.82 seconds
    0-402m 2005 12.482 seconds @ Piteå Dragway official timing.
0-402m 2006 (gtech only) 12.003 seconds with 2 persons in the car and a full tank of gas , top speed 193 km /h (119.5mph)

Pictures are on the way up. My webserver just got formatted
    Full weight S2 with A/C.
Stock interiour and with a Mp3 player.
Top speed last year about 300km/h

Impressive specs and times, especially with the heavier Avant. Look forward to seeing some pics.

        More pictures:

        Intercooler setup

        Turbonetics T60-1

        2x S4 Biturbo BOV's

        Setrab oilcooler 19row

My own design, home made intake pipe with dual bov piping.

Own design air filter protector, protection against snow and rain (this is a daily driver)

We also had problem with the MAF getting weird readings
without this "shield" the air just went through the filter
and the idle was really weird.

          Nice going ther !!!
          Good times .
U mentioned the shield and bad idle, this interests me.
Can you please tell us what you have done here ? is the shield protecting from heat or turbulance ? Wher exactly is the air filter located ?

My car starts to idle badly once shes warmed up a bit.

The heat is not a problem, it's turbulence.

Here is where I keep the airfilter :-)

That was the old ITG filter, I now use the K&N filter because we tuned the car with the K&N and if you notice more closely the track pictures (on the dragstrip) the ITG filter was too long and came under the shield. I also got low AFR with the ITG. So K&N it is!

In this particular picture I used the old MELTED ITG filter just as a reference, I had to cut a little into the front part of the car to be able to fit the filter more accurate. I can take a picture of it later, I'm currently welding the exhaust manifold due to minor cracks

The car should be up and running in a few days time. Then I'll try to make an in cam video of a gtech run. (hopefully sub 12 second one)

The snow wall cracked the RS2 front, I melted the cracks with aluminum net and after a few hours of work with the sandpaper it looked like new again (yes new paint too of course)

But otherwise no harm done. I was timed the quickest lap of the cars with normal street tires (not rally tires) pretty happy with that.

Considering that the head is still stock and not ported I would guess that this car has about 450-500 hp. A bit of machining to do this winter and I hope to use all of the Turbos potential, about 500-600 hp. Hoping to run a low 11 sec run next year.

With all that work would it not be wise to have a reverse MTM style inlet manifold to reduce lag?

I still dont understand why the shield would effect the idle as thers no turbulance at idle speed. But ive seen else wher that the maf is sensitive to type of filters and oiling used.

A few more pictures of the turbo setup from the top would help ...

Jamo: There's a 4" inlet on the turbo, does the MTM inlet have that? my MAF is also in a 4" body. Or do you mean the intake manifold? Yes I'm thinking about getting a reversed one.. But it costs $$$$

Fahemo I'll get some more pictures of the inlet later! Just remind me

Cheers Prosty The idle on my Avant has been a strange since having the filter
in that location... looks like i need a bit of shielding
As for the intake theres been a few guys that have made the 500-600hp on the
                        standard system.

Always good with other ppls ideas :-)

I know several audis that made it to the 10's with "stock" intake, just ported and removed service channels.

Had some problems with cracks in the DP and in the EM.

                            Downpipe removed

                            Soon the EM removed

                            GONE!!

This is the cracked EM. Welding on it's way

Hopefully the car is up and running in a few days.
