Not tellingSo my digi dash is very dim. It flashes bright when you switch off the ignition and also when you press the clock button. Shining a bright torch into the light sensor makes no difference. The dimmer dial works only on the lights on the mile counter. I have been told this is probably my dimmer as there are two inside the switch on the Ur.

But it tested good.
A chat with Pete Knight suggested he needs to see the cluster. However, I'm no 13 in the queue. Cry.
Anyone have a spare cluster. Cheeky grin.

I still have my Gunson Colourtune and Strobe. From my M2 Cortina days I reckon! The strobe is really basic, IIRC it just fires a red neon straight from the spark.
Thats jogged a happy memory, i bought mine back in 86/87 when i owned TPB 132X Cortina 2.0 Ghia Mk5. Think it used to measure 1% from memory and found it to be pretty accurate at least good enough. I'll be dammed if i know where it is now? Looking good that measurement - good luck for the mot.

Got my old trusty gunston gas tester out. I must have had this for over 35 years. Almost as old as the Ur. It's not super accurate but gives a good indication.

Anyway, well pleased with the result.

Seems high for todays standards but amazingly the limit for this car is 4.5!
A few more things still to sort but she's mot ready.

Good old gunsons
Ive got a newer one with the digital reading and its probably similar to yours in that its an 'alright indicator' but i find it a bit of a nuisance how the reading seems prone to fluctuating. I reckon the needle is easier to determine a figure - won't flicker up and down anywhere near as much.Leave a comment:

Thanks guys.
I took her for a short drive to test the brakes. We are good. One wheel actually started to lock up and the abs light came on for a moment. Is this normal on these? Went out and didn't return.
When she was up to temperature I wanted to test the co2 level. Got my old trusty gunston gas tester out. I must have had this for over 35 years. Almost as old as the Ur. It's not super accurate but gives a good indication.

Anyway, mot booked for Wednesday and alignment straight after.

Thanks guys.
Sometimes you have a good day in the garage. Today was a good day.
When I put the back bumper on I couldn't work out how the lower lip connected. It has holes to screw into something but nothing to screw to.

I consulted my old pics from when the car was stripped and I could see a small rusty lip on the back of the car. This lip seems to have been left off in the welding process. I checked on 7Zap and this lip is part of the complete rear section of the car. So, got my thinking cap on and came up with a cunning plan. A couple of aluminium brackets might work.

These thing normally take hours of cutting and adjusting but somehow it came good first go.
Stainless fittings and we are all good.

They hold the lip really firmly and won't rot out like the original steel ones.
Next up I put the car back on the lift and took the gear linkage apart. Moved it slightly and tried. No first or second this time. Had another couple of goes and still no good. On the fourth attempt I put the leaver slightly to the left. Hey presto. We have all five gears and reverse.

Then a package arrived. Nice new carpet mats.
Now I ordered these from eBay and they didn't have the clips to hold the carpet down. After complaining, they asked me to send pics of my clips and measurements and they custom made me a new set! Fantastic.

Next up to do is brakes. They were very spongy. This time I set up my pressure bleed kit as well as my boy helping me. He went up in the car on the lift and pressed the pedal for me whilst I bled from underneath.
I got quite a bit air out and now we have a nice solid pedal.
Happy Father's Day.
