As a general update, i’ve spent the last couple of weeks cleaning out the engine bay, figuring out certain material choices and planning generally.
As far as the engine, fueling, steering and brakes go, i think i have most of it figured out.
Got a lot of parts coming in over the next week, and i’ll try to get better at snapping photos. Both for my own sake, but also for the enjoyment of you guys!
It’s been a lot of fun this far, and i’ve also had a couple of interesting finds and ”solutions” from previous owners. In short, this car has been severely abused and it feels good knowing it will be somewhat saved, although it will never be restored to it’s original state! As a side note i found the ABS unplugged, and all of the calipers were in such a bad shape i’m surprised they even worked... (And oh my god the amount of dirt and grime i’ve had to remove from literally EVERYWHERE)
Find some pictures below
The goal now is to dry-fit the engine, make sure everything works as intended, then pick it all apart and send it off for a paint and body job. Hopefully i can have the engine run in and bodywork done in time for spring. The interior side of the project probably wont be done until early summer.

So.... where should i begin?
Found out the ”fully built” engine i bought from a fellow S2 owner here in Sweden, is complete and utter scrap.
Not a single bolt or nut in the entire engine torqued to correct spec, wrong cams, threaded bolts and nuts everywhere, parts missing, cam gear bolt loose enough that i could screw it loose with my fingers, literal junk in the cylinders, torn and scrappy seals left and right... well the list goes on. I’ll post some pictures below (yes that is part of a wire in cylinder #3)
The seller sold it as ”99% plug and play”.
God knows the mess that could’ve been made if the wrong person bought it and fired it up. Ahwell, back to the drawing board!
over and out

I’m not one to sit around waiting for better times! Since the last post i have dropped the block and head off at a renowned local engine builder, ordered new parts for an whole engine rebuild.
Block is being bored to 81.5mm, heads being ported and matched to runners for better flow. Installing a girdle, 60-2 trigger and MLS headgasket. Lower camgear being replaced for Tommi’s, i’m trying to find an adjustable upper cam gear in stock, but seems impossible.
Lightweight lifters are being installed, stiffer springs, titanium retainers, performance viton valve stem seals, special valve locks and motorsport bronze valve guides.
For valves i’m going 1.5mm oversized supertechs, inconel for exhaust and stainless nitrited for intake.
Every gasket is being replaced for victor reinz ones. For pistons i went with JE 9.5:1 81.5mm (will run on E85 with water/meth injection), and lighter, stronger x-beam rods. Also upgraded the piston pin to a thicker one.
All of this paired with a medium-sized turbo, lighter flywheel,as much weight reduction in valvetrain as possible, lighter rods and pistons, should make for a very fast revving, aggressive engine. For peace of mind, every single bolt in the engine will be ARP, although not entirely necessary perhaps.
i’ll try to snap some pictures of all this engine porn when it arrives in a couple of days!
As for camshafts, i’ve not yet decided but i think custom catcams with adjustable chain gears is the way to go. Hopefully i will have some bench results for you in a couple of weeks, the whole thing will most likely be benched on an engine bench once finished!

Status update, busy day today!
The pearl has more or less been reduced to an empty shell, i’m heading off to the engine builder to drop off all the parts today, i still have a couple of items coming in early next week but hopefully they will be here in time! Also, the body shop that will paint the car is coming over today to have a look at what they’re dealing with.

Engine build coming together, just waiting for the correct sized valve locks before final assembly. Got sent the 1.8t 5mm’s instead of the 2.2t 7mm’s
Hopefully picking it up from the builder next week. You do not have permission to view this gallery.
