Cool, did you buy a cross member to go with it or move the stock bracket? I maybe interested in that solid fly wheel and clutch if you still have it, just need to know the weight as G60's need a heavy set up to run properly. I don't mind going a bit lighter and it would solve the engine to gearbox mating perfectly.

Progress had been slow on this project as I've had a couple of time wasters after either the whole Corrado or the engine and running gear, everything has a price at the end of the day and I would part with the lot for the right money.

If I was to sell the G60 power plant I'd probaly go with a PG type motor from a late B5 car, the guy I work with has one in a 2WD B4 80 and it's very, very fast, too much torque really so a quattro drive train would sort that out. We have a contact who removes the imboliser and runs his own maps for VAG oil burners for a very resonable price, he makes a 130BHP car at least 170BHP with crazy tourqe.

Anyway after being mucked about by eBay morons I've decided to stick with plan A... G60 power, I know the engines history and the charger is pretty much new and people aren't prepaired to pay what it's worth, simple. Plus a G60 B3 quattro with a close ratio gearbox is a good idea IMO, I've spent a few hours working out the hose routing using the ABY intercoole/cross member and it actually works out really well. If I was to get a MK2 Golf G60 outlet for the charger and maybe one pipe or two I could do an almost factory looking installation, however I can make a nice job working with whatever parts have to hand which is the ethos for this project... That said I may see what I can find on German or Dutch eBay as it would look super tidy with those parts.

The only progress I've made is to fit the 195/50/15 Toyo 888 to my Ronal wheels, they went on with a bit of a fight, our tyre machine is about 30 years old so doesn't have an extra arm to help like more moden machines. It took a whole afternoon as I spent a considerable amount of time cleaning the seats so they went on okay and won't leak, they go on the rims really well and I'm very pleased with them as they're pretty much new. Going to fit them over the weekend so I can clean and put tyres on my 14" BBS as well as the winter rubber on the 14" steels.

Will probaly stick some pics up on Sunday.

Good thinking, avoids having to weld anything to that very thin steel.

My old S2 cross member has a very crude 'bracket' welded on that only attached to one of the RS2 IC's mounting poinnts, looks rough as hell but did the job very well.

I'd like to completly remove that and fabricate a new mount in the correct place for an ABY IC, I'll probably take it into work and using the Kempi, that machine is very easy to use.

It's going to be interesting to see if the front bumper which is just a very basic skin clears it... If not it'll be modifed to suit. The original Corrado IC was located under the near side wing and got minmal air flow so the ABY one which is over three times the capacity is more than up to the job.

Right time for a quick update, I've been very busy helping at work with a couple of engine rebuilds and have spent the last five days scaffolding then stripping off one side of my mates roof. He had a couple of serious leaks causing the plaster board to give in a couple of rooms as the old felt and batten was shot as well as some rafters. So as we've had some nice weather we've been racing to get it in the dry before todays rain hit us. We just got all the new felt and 80% of the battons on yesterday after spending the rest of the time replacing rotten rafters, roofing is one of my favoraite jobs but not with so much pressure on me.

Anyway, enough about building. To save time the chap I work with has lent me his 'Rowdy' to get to work and back which is a FWD B4 base model 80 Saloon with a very highly tunned PD 130bhp engine still on a K03 pushed to it's limits. The original engine was a Didgifant 2.0 long block four pot of the type VAG introduced around 1993 so pretty much the same as my 2.0 3A but not so free reving or as strong. The power output was actually less than my old B3, 112bhp as opposed to my 3A's earth shattering 115bhp, but for the sake of argument pretty much identical with gear ratios to suit.

Well with the 180bhp/350Nm PD motor in it the first two gears are useless, if you floor it it will keep spining the wheels into fourth gear in the dry and the thing takes some hanging onto. I know it's a B4 but it's very much the same as a basic B3 inside the only major differences are no rear bulk head in the B4 and it runs 195/65/15" tyres as oppossed to 195/65/14"'s on the B3 as stock. It also has the face lift front end so the grill is part of the bonnet and it uses differnt headlights, it's also a bit heavier as stock.

Driving it for the past week has been a hoot and made me really want to crack on with my B3 project in ernest. I'm 100% sticking with the G60 engine as I have it to hand and know it's history, at 70K miles it's like new, well the charger is new effectivly, it was rebuilt by JMR 3K miles ago so is just about run in. However once it's in and running I'm going to invest in a pully and chip set from Germany that take's it upto 200BHP and close to 300Nm, that should make it pretty wild with the stock 2.0 quattro gearbox. The only other thing I need to change to run that software is the FPR, it calls for a 3.5bar one as opposed to a stock G60's 3bar item and as it happens I've got one in stock.

However with quattro assistance and super sticky tyres to get the power down so it should be a bit more user friendly, it shouldn't break anything as that FWD PD engine monster I've been using has tiny diameter drive shafts which I'm guessing must be solid or they would have snapped. Plus it produces more torque and has a savage power delivery, It's almost certainly faster to 60mph than a stock S2, though as the revs top out at 4K it doesn't have a very high top speed.

I've got two days at home now due to the rain as it's no fun roofing in the wet and it's considerably more dangerous, it's much more difficult to ballance on slippery battens. I have a few jobs I want to get done in the workshop, the main one being constructing a tool rack to hold all my 18V Dewalt kit as well as my old 18V Makita tools so they're all close to hand by my workbench with a charging station on the top. I know one can purchase such things ready made but good ones are bloody expensive and I have all the materials to hand and the carpentry skills requiered to make my own custom one

I also need to get the remains of the 30V C4 I broke into the attic as I hate cluter and need to make space for Corrado parts that will be going on eBay very soon. I've already made close to a grand back just selling bit's of trim and the slam panel and rad assembly.so breaking it was the right decision.

This has been my transport for the past week, as I've said it's one crazy machine done on a tight budget but it's great fun in the dry! They've used a stock Audi 2.0 flywheel and it's doing the job fine with a TDI clutch so I think that's what I'm going to do. No machining or special parts required.

Ahhh, I see, no problem. Those V8's are quite prone to premature head gasket failuire, though I'm not sure if they share a radiator with a gearbox oil cooler if it's an Auto in which case that could also be the problem.

What you need to do is start a thead in one of the Technical section, have a play around with the site and you'll work it out.

Yeah, that the idea of it, it's a proper sleeper, it did have some silly wheels on but for £2K with a full MOT he got a bargain IMO, he's going to convert it to quattro using a B5 doner car but it's crazy in FWD form.

He has a few B4 80 Avants with various engines and want to do quattro conversions with PD engines on them all to sell on. He's got a couple of scrap B5 quattro's already that we use as parts cars.

Yep, £2K as it is on the road with an MOT, just with silly 'stance' wheels totally the wrong offset with stupid stretched tyres the wong size fitted... It's also lowered a fair bit but I have to say it's not unpleaent to drive at all now it got the right size wheels and tyres on it and as a rule I'm not a fan of lowering springs.

It was all done in easten Europe so the clocks have been converted to KMH, the Rev counter doesn't work which is a bit anoying. The exhaust is just a straight through 2.75" pipe, no boxes at all so it's loud but not as much as one would expect. The car itself isn't super tidy, it's got a few bad scratches and bit's of surface rust here and there but is solid enough and straight.

Jim wasn't really looking to buy yet another 80 as he's got half a dozen already, however when he went to collect a replacment engine for his 2.8 CQ the breaker had the car and was looking to sell it, he's a Polish chap who just breaks B3/4/5 car's based somewhere near Birmingham.

I think he wanted £2.5K but was open to cash offers and Jim couldn't turn it down.
