    Project 'Can of worms'

I have been doing stuff on my S2 for the last 7 years I have owned it and spent too much money to even contemplate. Last couple of years I've done very little and enjoyed the car for what it is

However, this year is looking like a biggie in terms of work required to get it back to it's prime and seemingly a bit of a test in terms of my driveway DIY skills

So heres the list of work:

    DONE so far in 2007:
    New amplified aerial base replacement
    Rear lights resealed
Boot seal refit and bootlid feet adjusted...ta-da no more leaks
    Rear disc and pad replacement
Rear caliper carriers unsiezed and cleaned up
    Front brake clean up
    Centre guage backlights replaced
    New gear gaiter
    New rear drop links fitted
    Rear Goodridge hoses fitted
    Fit Alloy Centre Vent Plate
    New steering rack install
Replace all main sensors dotted about engine and water rail
Replace power steering lines on the hydraulic circuit
    Replace expansion tank
    install new steering damper
    intall new steering arms
    Replace cam cover gasket
    Replace power steering pump plug/seal
    installed new engine mounts
Grit blast intake pipes, pcv pipe and water pipe on the block and powder coat
Grit blasted rear wishbones and powder coat
blast and powder coat the strut brace
    Replace alloy alternator bracket

    To Do:
    engine removal....gulp
Replace the rear diff with 90 Quattro version (sourced & should be with me next week)
Replacement propshaft install with new centre bearing and cv's (in progress)
Replace heat shielding in engine bay
    Replace diff mounts
    Replace gearbox mounts
Replace snub mount with Sport Quattro version
Replace pressed front wishbones with forged (ready to go on)
    New front ball joints
Replace rear wishbone bushes and ball joints
    Replace top mounts at front
    New Rear track rods
Source genuine 5 speed gearnob replacement
    Change belts
Get aircon compressor resealed to cure oil leak
    Replace clock faces
    replace door rubber strips
Plus no doubt a host of stuff i find once the engine is out

Pics to come once the main parts arrive and I'll try and do a few BTDT's as I go.

    Wish me luck
    David

Quite a list there, at least having the engine out will make jobs loads easier.

Are you able to source the dials on there own. my rev gauge is stuck and think its the paint peeling off the dial

I'm probably going to just grab some of the Bo specials I think as the speedo for OEM replacement even through VAGParts is about £155. If the rev counter is stuck then its more than likely the paint lifting....easy job to rectify but seems to just keep happening. Oddly the only dial with no paint lifting at all on mine is the revs...

What is the differance between the 90 quattro rear diff and the S2 item?

not a lot except that the diff should be in better shape as aresult of being on a lower powered car and therefore tighter than my current one which is pretty worn i think. Also, £4000 cheaper than buying a new one from Audi

Good luck! Looks like my list (but that's in my head so I don't get too scared by the length of the bloody thing!).

I need a rear diff too at some point, slight whining coming from something anyway. Be interested to see how easy the centre prop bearing is as that's another suspect.

all coming together nicely, just bought a brand new Audi steering rack, non servotronic from 4rings for £140 inc delivery. Slightly cheaper than £584 for an S2 specific unit

                        quick update:

Steering rack which i tried to buy from 4rings they seem to have lost so that ended up being a non starter

Think I've tracked another down for an ABY which is also new, hopefully get that sorted this week.

Split the replacement prop this afternoon, quite simple, however once apart and on removing the 17mm bolt holding the u jount collar on I can't seem to get it off. I've left it soaking in some wd40 but any ideas on how to get it off?

Also, thought I'd have a look at the grease nipple and just as i finished unscrewing it my son ran in an interupted me...........and something shot out. I have recovered a spring and a small ball bearing but i have the feeling a larger bb is needed too....anyone confirm?

Question: What do you do when you bought audi paint in the 'wrong' silver and have a replacement diff almost fully cleaned/refurbed and ready to bolt on.....:mischeif:

                          Answer: Paint it

Powerflex diff mount to be fitted up to the replacement when it comes off the car and two fresh oem mounts to mate up to the refurb'd prop. Hopefully go on when i get the car booked in for a reworked longlife exhaust :mischeif:

at about 30kg f**k me is it heavy but it's lovely and tight - cheers Tris
