        8000rpm ...
Change that spec of turbo to a GT3076
and find yourself a better clutch setup.

you will be a very happy person therafter ...

        heres my 3071 for reference...

Why not just go straight out for a T3 or T4 GT35/40
It will be perfect for a monster car and will mean you won't have to upgrade all your parts like manifold, downpipe, injectors, software tune etc when you decide you want more power than the GT30

With that lot, I think the GT3071R and GT3076R won't make full use of the engine's potential. You'll want at least a GT35R.
What about block modifications? Engine girdle? Dry Sump?

I will leave the block alone as the only mod Ive done in the past is to wire ring the fire wall area but the head gasket isn't the weak link on these engines.

I am looking in to dry sumps and cross bolting/girdle, with the dry sump kit I am wait on e-mails back, but have made contact with a few suppliers.

I have got reservations on dry sumping, I have done a few conversions in the past while these are ok for competion cars for road use there are big questions on reliability specially the pump drive where its common for the belt to work off either through miss-alignment/flex or foreign objects throwing the belt

Doug did you produce your own, can you get another or direct me to who did it?

Aelred your dry sump kit is on hold? any reason??

Turbo wise I haven't made my mind you and as usual its a trade off between BHP and early boost, when the times there to order I will deside where to peg the BHP and this then set the spool up I guess. But any suggestions, specs and personal experiences

I take it Faheemo's turbo is not the 'R' version. Looks like the same as RS2 teritory, suppose it depends on mapping and mods done too.

                  I'd go with a GT3082R, like this one http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=GRT

Good luck with it, i'm mid process with some mild mods on mine too

                  Cheers,
                  Cheers,

Nope mine not the R version of 3071.
Graph is Measured on Gtech , Hp is net after wind and tyre resistance.
to correct to flywheel use equation (HP + 10Hp )/ 0.82 for quattro cars.
that gives me about 460hp corrected .. havent seen a rs2 do that as yet ....
BHP is a drug looking to upgrade already ..

The R versions of all the garrett turbos are the ball bearing versions (as opposed to journal bearings iirc).
So GT40 is plain old journal bearing turbo. GT40R is ball bearing version of the same turbo.
It gives slightly earlier spoolup . Around ~600 rpm for a turbo of that size but ball bearing turbos can also wear much faster apparently

Jay, the GT3071R was originally specified as your original bhp requirement wasn't quite as high as it is now

Anyone when these turbos (3040R and GT42R)start to produce boost as aposed to full boost? any torque curves avalible anywhere???

My thinking is if you are getting boost at say 2500 rpm then it climbs all the way through to 5800 then this would still be a trackable engine, I know the full boost hit masks the lower end pull big time.

Starting to wonder at what point BHP to reliabilty takes a massive dive, at 400ish its as standard bar the standard boost hose failure. Its more the engine internals and gear box/drivetrain I am worried about. I need to draw the line some where but 850 BHP sounds NICE!

I will be doing more to the servicing eg oil change every 2000 miles and plugs at 10.000 miles.

Mate stick with a 3071R or 3076R ( GT30R ) boost is acheived before 4krpm with these turbos and then pulls to redline.

GT42R is too big a turbo, Sal had a GT35/40 and it was too laggy and he reduced it to a 3076 ( GT30R ) and he was allot happier with that.

If you want around 500-550 then go for the GT35/40 ala Audiman but be prepared for a bit of lag.
