I changed those too... and i use the caps on the valves to fit them...but is not a must. iff you are carefull will be ok.
I finished today the engine...removed everithing...cleaned, checked, oiled and installed back. I was really lucky that nothing was affected.
The head assambled back too...checked..no leaks..hope will stay like this.
Tommorow i have to install the head back, put the engine on the car and do another test.

Nice work at valve lapping/area that closes on the seat.
Try washing all with powerwasher. You will get all wet but put the washer gun at all oil pasages etc.Aslo crank oil pasges.I use "TRIUMF" and it gets all out.Not friendly with alu.But if water is enough will not get oxide.
Not nice what you got there, but you only loose a headhasket and lots of labour. What you think of keeping valve seals? When you get them new you use a film or a cap supplied with the seals not to hurt their sealing lip.But when getting valves out?

Luck was as i have just turned the engine via starter motor to lubricate the engine...never runed the engine. Never thought that the intake was sandblasted.
The bores are ok...it was just few revolutions using the starter that was all.
Anyhow..i will remove the pistons and clean everithing.
I cant imagine iff i saw this in UK...
I was lucky.Leave a comment:

Indeed that looks to be the same issue as Sonics build.
Hopefully you caught it on time, has the engine been running since the rebuild? There are also issues with turbo, oil pump, everything needed removing and cleaning or replacing! Hopefully the bores are not ruined...
Just make sure theres no chance you still have sand anywhere in that engine when you rebuild it.
Im never getting anything sand blasted in my engine bay!!Leave a comment:

... I had to dismantle the engine!!!Luckly it happend here and not in UK at the dyno...
I wanted to run some oil through the engine and check oil pressure etc at starter speed.
Filled with oil, turned over...oil pressure at 5 bar...excelent i said...but...i was thinking to check the compression as it is now...
cilinder 1 and 5 ....3 barthe rest 11 bar...WTF??
Took the head off and found this...
The intake manifold was sandblasted at some point and i didint know....i cleaned how well i could, but at nr1 and 5 i couldint reach all i suppose.
I was more lucky like Sonic with his engine.Leave a comment:

The welds are nice indeed....there will be a small modification at the tailpipe...as the rear bumper...i think will go a little up from the left side...but Tavy told me that will be an easy fix after i install the bumper in the right position....
I am happy!Leave a comment:
