    7A to ABY?

'I'm starting to seriously think about replacing my 7A with an ABY and six speed box in my 89' CQ. First thing I need to do is work out every thing I need and then start getting the bits together.
The other option is to tune the 7A

What else will I need other than:
    Engine + Turbo + Gearbox,
    Loom + ECU,
    + Auxiliary's,

Is it a straight forward swap regarding engine mounts ect?

Any info on this would be great,
    cheers
    Mike

Exhaust system is not required, as the engine mounts to the downpipe which has the same flange.

Personally speaking I wouldn't do this, Wabtheing and Azman have converted CQ's to S2 spec and both commented it's better to just buy an S2.

The price of 3B's would be the same as the conversion.

use the tubular OEM header and put the turbo at the back!!! I know that will show incredible good results!!! Or... what do you think about supercharge it with a screw supercharger or a centrifugal one???? Go for a supercharged 2.5 or 2.6L, and a custom remapped chip.

The 7A has plenty of potential in NA form, but personally I think if you went to all the effort of doing a complete engine/loom/running gear swap you might aswell consider the V8 option

Possibly a stupid question. What does OEM stand for?

I do like the idea of tuning the 7A. Might be intresting to see what I can get out of it :mischeif:

That's what i'm doing, before I even think about turbo/V8 or something I want to see how much The 7A can give.

What have you done so far? Is yours a early one with the tubular manifold?

I haven't really done any thing so far, still trying to get it running properly. I have fitted a K&N pannel fillter and i'm having a SS exhaust made for it hopfully in the next couple of weeks (removing the cat too).

It does have a tubular manifold

What are your plans to get more power stiglet

Think i'll tune the 7A and maybe think about buying an S2 in a year or so.

                      Cheers

Got a tubby manifold, and an SS decat exhaust plus the 034 injectors. I'm planning to bolt on a TSR head I have after it's refurbed. Then just the usual stuff like a v6 maf and a tune up on the ECU to make the most of those mods. I will probably have the TSR head skimmed to raise compression. After that, i'll start on a stroker build. I have no idea what power I could attain. If it's not enough then I'll start looking at cams and possibley raising the rev limiter

There is still more to do after that, but I think once I get that far I might start looking at other engines (either ABY or V8) for more power if I still want it.

There are a few 7A projects over at motorgeek.com, and there is a guy over there running 300bhp NA on the standard 2309cc, but thats using very high compression and race fuel. I think he has raised the rev limiter too and using aggressive cams.

Using a longer "stroke" crank to give a greater swept volume, normally about 2.5 litre with a diesel crank.

That's right, got myself a diesel block which I think can be bored out to 2.6, although certainly 2.5 is possible.
