Can I ask you to explain in more detail what you did with the back brakes, in particular the type of bracket you bought from Ultimot. Any photos would be great.

What handbrake cables did you use?

Who is the manufacturer of the red rear springs in the photo in post # 26?

      Thanks for your time.

      Enjoy driving it.
      Hey David,

We're going to leave it off for now, yes. This is how it looked before we started:

About the springs, we've bought a kit (this one but for S2) from larkspeed, they found out the best fit. We had to modify the pipes in which the absorbers fall (don't know their English names) since they came from the coupe donor, but it's all nicely finished.

About the rear brakes, they are V8 calipers (these ones) with 310mm ventilated and drilled disks, and modified RS4 ehm, what do you call them, holders? Handbrake cables are V8 ones I think, we've just measured and picked some out of a magazine full of audi parts.

        Joris,

Thanks for the time taken to reply, and for the links.

Did you happen to measure the actual drop in the suspension before and after fitting the koni kit?

It looks at least half and inch in the original photo and the one in post # 57 outside the white garage door.

How does it ride over potholes and speed ramps compared to say a standard car or a car with H&Rs, (with Konis or Bilsteins), if you've been in such B4s?

        Thanks again.

It's ok but quite too low. Didn't measure it but it's really a lot. It is a little bit adjustable, I guess one cm or something, I will have to put it up a bit. We were not sure if it'd survive this low, so we adjusted left and right a little bit different to find the limit (only the stiffness is adjustable, but it makes the height change a little). Right just hits the car on bumps, on the left it doesn't. Just a little afraid to test the handling, I haven't totally tested it yet since I don't want to crash it after two years of hard work . It has mainly done highway km's so far.

I myself ride an audi 90 quattro 2.3 as daily car (25.000 km each year) with an FK Highsport kit (this one), on the cast iron lower suspension arms with powerflex bushes, S2 axles and 20V bearings. It's quite hard, the koni kit is maybe a little more forgiving in the corners but I haven't tested the handling fully. I will drive it in two weeks again, since I'm 230 kms away from my parents home, where the car is situated, since I study and work (and live) here. But there's no place to work on the car here.

If you really want to go for great handling I'd advise the FK kit. It is just a little bit more expensive but totally adjustable and the handling is just perfect. Coincidentally I drove the nordschleife again this weekend (it's only 140 km from my parents home), first time with the FK kit (and powerflex etc) and it really went great. It's stiff but not too crazy tooth-crushing stiff . If you see the pictures you'll get what I mean, before and after. 3 and 5 are with the new suspension, and on high speed . One and two are with the old suspension. The one from the side is just for fun. With bilstein I have no experience.

If you want the rear brakes just as our ones, I can inform about the exact details of the brake disks at ultimot. Will have to do that anyway since we'll need replacements sooner or later anyway. The price of the the brackets is €140 and €60 for the modification. The disks were about €130 each. They can probably make the kit again for you. Unfortunately it brakes that hard that we're planning to put a braking power regulator in between the lead to the back to keep a good braking power ratio.

Has anyone experience with a short shifter? Such as this one?

            Joris,

Given the distances involved and the budget your completion of the project is all the more admirable. Agree wholeheartedly re crashing it given the time and effort invested in it.

You are correct your daily is much tighter in the photos. As a mater of interest are the ARBs standard?

Enjoy being so close to the Ring, do a route planner to Dublin and you'll see you have the drop on us over here, by a couple of hundred kilometers.

Thanks for the info to date re the brakes, do want mine bigger than std at the rear, but not to have the extra hassle of the need to fit a brake balance adjustor.

re the gearshift, see post # 7 in this thread.

Should be able to give you some feedback after I've tried it in John's Coupe.

            Good luck with the studies.

Ehm, whats an ARB :$?. Thanx for the shifter topic! If you fit bigger front brakes (360 or sth) you won't need an accumulator anymore . Don't think is't much work anyhow, just fitting it in between the line to the back.

Sorry as quatrostyle says, anti roll bar, front and rear.

I note your comments regarding the balance mechanism not being required with suitable big front brakes. If I did need one though I'd want it inside the car to be able to adjust while driving.

                  Thanks.

Update, made some movies. Speedo is not yet fixed, but it gives an impression of where we are so far. With ori 3b exhaust and s2 IC so there's stille some power to gain. Also fitted an open air filter yesterday. Hmm I wanted to put "- Upd. Video's P5." in the topic title but couldn't find how to do that... Anyone suggestions?

Rocco! Yes it's the original one, with the pieces in between to make it higer. We took it of to have the rear repainted... And it looks fine without it to be honest .

Will do. With the separate coils and so. But I think that's for next year or whenever. I found out yesterday there are forged wineco's used (we needed bigger pistons because of the internal wearing off) so the engine can handle a bigger turbo sometime . Hopefully we can make the new IC mount next week saturday / sunday. And go on the hunt for a short IM.
