Sorry Nuvo, got my wires crossed mate.

Those will do the trick nicely.

If you do buy others, make sure they are at least 50mm deep, as the head is quite deep and some of the shorter ones available will not reach.

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunatley, or not, I didn't see your posts until this morning. I bought a Laserline spline drive set on Fri afternoon, ÂŁ9.75. Did the job without any issues. I must admit, it's a lot of torque on the head bolts. I reckon it's somewhere around the 140-150nm.

Engine is now nearly rebuilt. Need to buy a couple replacement bolts an a couple of bits of hose. The recon turbo I bought had me temporarily puzzled. Look at the photo's and you'll see why.

I need a bit of help on the little link bar in the other photo's. I can't remember wher it is bolted to. Any help anyone?

        Thanks

Well, nearly there for the engine rebuild. Lifted it down off the engine stand last night. Just need to sort out the flywheel end, oil seal, flywheel and clutch.

Must admit, I've been a bit lazy preparing the engine bay. Need to sort the slave cylinder and track rod ends before I can lift the engine back in. Hopefully won't be too long now. I'll post some more pics soon.

Paul (S2Central), are you getting my pm's? I sent the engine specs to you yesterday by pm but didn't get a reply. Just checking.

              Thanks

Cheers Paul, got your pm. I guess I'll need some advice on this. It would be good to have an indication on the options, the differences between them and the costs involved.

If you get a minute, maybe you could pm me some more info.

                  Thanks

Need a bit of help on the wiring. I bought a couple of connectors, T8E & T8F, to replace the ones on mine that were partially shorting. I thought I would get away with just transferring the wiring to the new plastic body. Having removed two of the wires, I don't think that's the best solution.

Does anyone know where I can buy the crimped connections shown in the photo. My intention is to replace them rather than cut and splice the wires.

                    Thanks

I think you need special connector tools for that - or some micro screwdrivers if you are careful. Search for LASER tools 4329 connector tool kit. HAZET do them also - bigger money though I'm sure.

That said - the terminals come from Audi - I can search them out if you wish... Remember though you will need a special crimp tool for these - probably more expensive than terminal extraction tool.

The crimped connections would be already crimped to new standard repair length wire though wouldn't they? (which is always yellow) if obtained from your dealers.
Didn't think Audi sold the crimps on their own?

I have a friend who works in aircraft electronics and he tells me he can get hold of a crimping tool that size. It's just the terminals I need.

                          Cheers

Actually - Jas is right now that I rememeber... From Audi they come with the little yellow tails pre-crimped... You'd need to get them from AMP (now TYCO) as raw terminals. Dunno the type number.

I still don't understand why they are so hard to remove with the right tool. I'd personally much rather that then (a) cut and crimp new pins or (b) splice wires into new crimped pins...

I can remove the pins from the plastic outer. Problem is that they are quite badly corroded and really need to be replaced (see the photo showing 1pin extracted, the two other photo's are of the pins from the new connector which are in good nic).

I think that makes sense, it does to me but then I know what I want to say. I think I've confused the situation by showing photo's of new pins.

Or am I missing/not understanding something.

Oh right - now I see the crusty wires in one of those pics - its clearer to me...

If you have the new pins from new connector then you may as well solder-splice & heatshrink the old wires into the new tails - ugly I know with the yellow things but such is life.
Getting new bare pins needs some inside knowledge on details of that connector... Took me ages to do this for Bosch JPT plugs.

Can you see any AMP part numbers on the connector bodies ?
That might help with an on-line search...
