Project 1995 ABY. Getting an S2 onto irish roads.

Before......

I had put the lines on the car, loose fitted them, but this section was all twisted, so I took them off again, and rearanged them so they appear as on the photo above.
Then added some wrap to protect the lines from each other.

Lovely circlip free lines.

Above the exhaust mid box.

This I think was the most difficult section. Getting the lines bent so the stay out of the way of the handbrake lines, and locate into the support on the battery box.

Just a tiny flare where it meets the flex line.

Took about 30 second of engine turnover to get the system primed and running.

Big thanks to S-Express, and the guide he posted.

Fitted front ARB, drop links and powerflex bushes, but I think I got the wrong ones. I think they need to be 1mm less than the arb. I will see how it goes. Thats the original arb just cleaned back to metal and por15.
I also bled the brakes after a complete brakefluid change to castrol dot 4, fitted the rear handbrake lines, changed the gearbox mounts, reconnected the prop shaft and all the shielding.Last edited by irishs2; 9 July 2011, 23:06.Comment

Nearly there now.
Changed the engine mounts yesterday.
The one under the turbo is a complete
to get at, but after finding a cheap wrench to bend, it got a little bit easier to undo the nearly siezed nut.

Used the extension bar as a T-Bar, eventually was able to get the nut off.

I know I had excessive engine movement when I drove it, the snub mount is ok, but these engine mounts while 8mm down on new, they dont seem too bad. I hope for a improvement after the new ones have been put in.
I got to be honest, I found the other engine mount under / behind the rad far more difficult to do, as the captive nuts failed to be captive.
Just need to go for alignment during the week and hopefully to be back on the road by next weekend.

Changing the one on the drivers side of the S6 made a noticeable improvement when you go back on the throttle from idle. Hopefully you'll get someone with the patience to track it correctly after all this work.

You were right, they made a big difference, was able to take it out of the shed today and immediately noticed the reduction of engine movement.
I think one my abs sensors are not in fully far enough as I get some abs action when slowly coming to a halt, one of my cats needs to be twisted back so it sits higher in the car.
I was talking to the alignment guy today, and he knew there was a bit more work than your average car, and could only fit it in on Monday, but luckly the place is very nearby, within a few miles.

Needs a good clean inside and out

Ok, alignment was on Monday last. It was only 5 or so miles away so I decided to drive it..
I thought I kinda got alignment right roughly, but I was wrong . It was squirreling and crabbing, it was ok but was a little embarrasing going 10mph on main road
They used a Corghi Exact 6800
The trip back was one of the best I have had in the S2 so far. The Porsche brakes are a HUGE improvement, even with the abs acting funny. (must sort that out tomorrow)
It loved windy flat roads but it is very harsh now with the h+r and solid mounts. Might wind the konis out a bit to lower the harshness for what thats worth.
Yesterday evening and today saw the installation of a homefries ecu, boost gauge, Pioneer headunit (bluetooth phone kit built in). Clay and polish and black grille.

El cheapo boost gauge with built in error
Pioneer DEH-7300BT, very nice radio and interfaces to the iphone just fine. Also thanks to the forum found the 12v switchable on the little red wire on the back of the ignition switch.

NCT next Sunday
.. Hope my work pays off.

Do you need a set of black perforated leather trim for that?

I am SO impressed. If I had the place to do all these things at home or very close to home my S2 would still make me happy. Good to see the de-rusting process so effectively. I need to search the forum for more info about it.Marcel

And thanks for the report regarding the engine mount difference. I had many discussions with my garage and they didn't want to replace the mounts even after 300k+ km and 15 years.Marcel
