Obvious...
Should have thought that. But... do you think it would make a big difference? I mean, the air will be compressed A LOT, and will get much hotter. I suppose that if James has decided to do that is because it is worth done, but it still makes me wonder if the difference will be noticeable.
Thanks Lind4hl.

Mmm... James, I was wondering... if you are not running MAF, why do you move tha air filter to that position?
I think that Doug and Mark Halligan (correct me if I am wrong) have the air filter attatched to the turbo. Do you think that it is a worse choice than yours?
Cheers!
The air is colder there than in the engine compartment
colder air= more power

Yes its Andrews car, although the exhaust was made in house he mentioned it being a " Meerkat" system, I presume its someone he knows who specialises in that sort of thing although to be fair I would think he is more than capable judging on the rest of the build !Leave a comment:

yeah the HKS filters are 5hlt at filtration but they flow really well. You pays your money and you takes your choice i guess.
Its no exactly going to be a daily driver though so in reality i'm sure it'll be fine

Well, i checked this out.Silicone can withstand about ~220-250 degrees celcius therefore problem with heat and expansion if you just tighten the clamp
It never gets that hot on the intake side
The blue silicon hoses that already are on the engine will look great to the turbo inlet, think about serviceability, not fun to remove the front bumper everytime you have to check the turbo or pressuretest the system.
Also a hint if you're going with MAF on the hotside is to build a water splash shield infront of the airfilter, this will help in tuning regarding idling and also as a protection from water, can be rainy over there
I can remove the cold side and pull the pipe work through really easy, then to remove the filter i can do this from the bumper.
Car is running no MAF

Not really sure lots of conflicting views
Thanks John, Not all the welding is mine i am having lessons whilst doing my own work
There is a 40mm gap either side of the pipe work incase the engine moves under load or braking. It has solid motor mounts so i guessing i will not see alot?
The Filter will have a 5mm beed around it and then clamped on for good luck

I would use a silicon hose there and some simple clamps, the engine and turbo will move around a little and the tube is going through the inner wing so you dont want it rigidly attached.
Great work James BTW! Your welding is looking nice!

by the way, i noticed that you will be using the mushroom filter although it is being trashed as being one of the worst.
i already have that filter to use and it makes me wonder...
what do you think?Leave a comment:

also, why should you do something not 100% since this car is 100% in the engine overall
