    Ur Wr 1984 Restoration

Hiya am a newbie to this forum...but im a regurlar on www.quattroforum.com and www.classic-audi.co.uk

I saw a advert in the paper about august time for 2 Ur quattro restoration projects...i went along and there was a silver (bought by my mate stumack) and the white one i have..considering it was my 18th birthday a few days before..i bought the white Ur

on first thought on viewing it looked a doomed prospect...but for £1500 Bucks..i could own a car ive always wanted (not a pishy saxo or feeshty)...and also my hobby and apprenticeship as a service engineer (year 2) could be let loose on restoring the car

Once the car was home..first things first...got it onto axle stands..and had a good clean...then checked underneath the car..to my surprise...hadnt rusted on most parts as much as i thought...but probable be some amount of hidden rust ..if you look at the bodywork..am sure some has crept threw.

first of all on the agenda:..the brakes and the engine:
New Or 2nd hand brake discs needed
    New brake lines
Bought A 2nd hand brake servo( wasnt een on the car when i bought it) waiting to be fitted
    Brake pads
reattach rear callipers and give them a clean and primer and paint

    Engine:
put duckoil or Wd-40 in the bores to loosen up the engine ( a bit stiff, has been sitting for a decade)
check of all wiring condition ( needs new wiriing connections to the starter motor)
    New air filter..fuel filter..sparl plugs..leads
drain off oil..remove sump..clean it out..check bottom end.
clean out all hoses and pipes of gunk.
lubricate all necesarry bits with oil and syringe

    Interior:

rear seats were off anyways (undecided as to whether to put them back on or to go lite)
    all wiring in good form...
    replacement fuses
green digi dash and patrizia work fine..and happily talk to me
wiring needs sorting to the radio...electric windows heater controls (aka most of the centre console)
need to sort vacuum diff lock
    sort out the seatbelt mounts
needs drivers side rear light wiring and bulbs and case ( steal of my old gt5)

    Exterior+ Bodywork

rust bad (Sills..Rear Quater Panel..boot floor)
rust patchy(around rear lights and door bottoms)
    underseal the arches
remove the windows and chec for rust
    clean the strusts..prime then paint.
clean the 8j alloys or maybe a refurb but thats least of my problems
rear spoiler respray (but maybe getting a sport quattro spoiler)
    dent in front bumper

thats most of the issues for now...once all these have been sorted i can move onto things like ..strut mounts..engine mounts..uprated parts..new fuel pump..exhaust mountings.

so far all ive managed to do (working3 days a week at college ..and 3 1/2 days a week at tesco inc nights so not much time) is sort a few of the electrical issues and a engine clean up and check.

this is a long term project thats gona make my wallet squel like a piggy...but ill enjoy it as its a personal dream come true

Cheerz mate...ive done a fair bit of engine work on my GT5...that was my first project ..but the bodywork and chassis was well to far gone...so thats now a spares car..but it has taught me a fair bit about the audi coupes...not much about the quattro's...

cant wait to get the car moved to inverurie..so i can work on it alot more often..currently its parked at my mums in turriff

Nice project mate and you have very good taste in cars for a young'un

I hope the dreaded tin worm hasn't caused too many problems for you - good to see another old car brought back to full health

                      Cheerz guys. . .

now that is a rather sexy treser conversion... (uther half looks at me with evil eyes)..

well the tinworm on the sills and rear quater are what is the worst..should be a relatively simple fix for a few of my fabricator mates...1 infact lives about 20 metres from me and has a rather sick fetish with RS turbos ( i have a rather less aggressive fetish for them..but i still would

soon i hope the engine shall be running...and a video or 2 shall be put on here and the quattro forum

Ps:...i hate saxo's..pug's..some fiesta's....these lil 1 litre chav wedding cakes make me laff..especially when a mate said he got his up to ""WAIT FOR IT"" 80mph:O...

a big brown box from eurocarparts has arrived today with new oil filter..spark plugs..alternator belt..alloy cleaner and another ting witch ive forgotten now:O...parts atleast..only minor but none the less...important...oh and ive got a brake reservoir off the fleabay for 30 bucks...plus whatever p and p is...next i need brake lines and hoses and discs and pads

Yeah, been thinking of fitting a stock bumper for a few years, the Reiger is as close as I could get to the Treser one which dissapeared in a flood about 15yrs ago

The Treser conversion was.. Ported head with big valves, stronger WG spring, Cam, Porche metering head and Treser airbox, claimed extra 50HP and 50Nm IIRC. Mine also has a hybrid turbo and ecu mod to allow increased boost without fuel cutout.

I recommend you do the fuel pump relay mod, the wiring is so thin to the pump you can actually hear it run faster if you connect it straight to the battery

Also you need to check that the fuel pressure reg is working properly, I know a chap who can get them rebuilt if you need it, the whole running of the motor relies on the fuel presure being spot on. Low pressure will make it run rich, high pressure makes it run lean. Also make sure all the little vac pipes relating to the FPR are in good condition. If it runs lean at WOT it will ping like a church bell.
And check the switches on the TB are working correctly, for idle stabilisation and WOT enrichment.

                              Have fun!
