an s2 forum track car thats not an s2 would be rather pointless... i would keep it simple with a stripped out car running moderate safe power and decent brakes/suspension,i may be able to help out with storage and workshop to work on it but times would be limited

A sedan would be cool, but its got to be an S2 really IMO. Maybe a Sedan next?
I'd think something like a 3b coupe or avant would be ideal, as long as its well priced.
I guess 996's with stock-ish k24 would be great to start with, maybe building up to RS2 or 3071 spec depending on parts/costs.S2Forum.com AdministratorComment

Sticking my penny's worth....
For it to be an S2 Forum car It has to be a PROPER S2 either an Avant or a Coupe...
If you are wanting Advertising revenue it has to be a "Genuine" version otherwise it just will look like a "Pimp My Car" Hash....
How many peeps off this form even knows there was an S2 Sedan....
I didn't until I joined here & I have owned an S2 longer than most on here....
I love the idea...
But the logistic's of it are gonna be a nightmare and it's gonna take someone who is REALLY committed too it for it to work...
I would be happy to "Buy a Share" in it, but I just don't have the spare time to come & help with doing any work on it...
I see this as a sensible way forward as it will help fund;
A, the purchase of the car...
B, yearly subs to help keep the car running..
Say ÂŁ100.00 per "Partner Per Year" and this gives you a share in the car & say maybe a couple of laps on a circuit...
You could do a half partner share @ ÂŁ50.00 PY.. No driving...
20 "Full Partners" gives you ÂŁ2k & this buys the car!!
In a few years you maybe able to fund 2 cars.... etc etc
The maths is quite simple!!
I would like to be able to drive this car round a track as I wouldn't want to run the risk of damaging my own or have someone run into mine...
How does track day insurance work, would it cover multiple drivers?
I think the other thing you could use it for is giving step by step threads for doing upgrades; including using Sponsors parts... this helps numptys like me see how to fit the parts... see the benefits of fitting them and also helps the sponsors sell thier items... and in turn helps the forum... car sales newbies etc etc... All benefits....
Just My Thoughts...
I'll chuck in a set of Badges For the Car

There are lots of projects on the forum that aren't S2s, an S2 sedan replica in RHD is certainly a nice project but it's undersatndable that people don't think of it as an S2.
Dest, it's more like a 205 owners' forum using a 309, a B4 saloon is an Audi afterall. The Golf analogy would be like us lot restoring an M3 or Cossie :mischeif:
Fun though all this is, it's irrelevant what car is decided upon until the more than trivial details are worked out... Still, it's all good fun

I think its a brilliant idea... and yes it HAS to be a genuine S2 IMO, I've voted Avant simply because it's the a cheap way in and I'll confess I do rather like fast estates!Haynes Manual:As described in Chapter 7...
Translation:That'll teach you not to read through before you start, now you are looking at scarey photos of the inside of a gearbox.Comment

I think Avant too, they handle better
I have space and time to work on it, and can have the paintwork done for nothing (well I can prepare it and pay for the paint, dad would put the paint on as I am pretty crap and he is awesome at it!). Only problem is I am quite far north!Comment

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's all dreamland.
A forum car for the masses will never work. The logistical and organisational problems far outweigh the potential collective knowledge and enthusiasm for this to work.
The only way it would work is for a HARDCORE small group of member relatively local geographically to each other to club together and buy and build a car and run it.
This could then potentially be hired or rented out to other members for track days etc, but even that has organisational problems like transportation and insurance.
Sorry to sound like a damp squib, but it ain't never gonna work.
Cheers,
