Anyway all laughing aside......With your level of detail have you thought about doing your own nickle platting of nuts and bolts etc?

What would it cost to buy the powder coating machine and the oven you have in the pictures.Price for the vacuum pump? I am thinking of investing if it's not too rediculous to keep my 4 beauties perfect.

The oven cost £50 ish new.
Powder coat is about £18 for 1kg, and that is LOADS. Out of the 1KG I still think I have approx 1KG left its very efficient .
The gun is I think about £130 from frost
The compressor , I had one already but the cheapest one will do as you only need approx 15psi and the smallest compressor can do that.
You will need a pressure regulator off the compressor, but you can get one separately and I don't think they cost too much.

So all I do is clean the part. (Wire brush, blast whatever)
    Clean it with pre-paint wipe.
Pre-heat to 215C for 10mins and let cool down.
Coat it , put it in the oven gently, it only takes 5mins to go glossy , and then bake it for 20mins at 215C after it turns glossy to cure it.

    Thank you.

Yea I have what could be called a blast cabinet. Its in the top pic there with the rusty bits resting on the lid of the cabinet.
I cannot get it to work reliably, and when it does work, after a few minutes I cannot see what I am doing . I am probably using the wrong media/gun or something. It works but its frustrating to use.

Next project is to finish a test sample of dechroming the door handles by testing cargo tie down.

    Gona RS2'ize my door pulls.

Lately I have been messing (literately messing) with powder coating.

Many years ago, I got a present of a powder coat gun and it took until now for me to use it. I picked up a cheap toaster oven that could do at least 230C and began experimenting. I learned that post cleaning pre heat is important as it stops the power coat bubbling from contaminants on the metal not removed by ordinary cleaning.

When taking out the interior I noticed some of the trim was rusty. This was the support brackets for the glovebox and the support for the centre console.

After a sandblasting, wipe and pre heat I coated them in black.

I was very happy with the results so last weekend was

So a lot of the stuff that would in the engine bay that I had painted black, I redid in powder coating. I will get more pics of that in the coming days.

Ah. I assumed it was these guys with it having 'CMC automotive' sticker on it:-

    http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tchlink:top:de

They wouldn't even give me £5 discount when I made a best offer !

It looks ok ., but I did get it very cheap. http://tinyurl.com/mo8e5h8 I think this was where I got it but they do specials every now and then. I think I paid £100-£110 inc shipping.

Thanks for that, I didnt even know there was such a mark.

    Brakes were the next priority.

Transporter master cylinder will take the S2 brake fluid tank. Bonus !
I blocked off the clutch master cylinder feed. No clutch yet

Vacuum pump was very handy here.

Starting at the rear opposite side, I started sucking fluid through the system.
It took a while, retighting the new brake joints I made, as they nearly all leaked.
Eventually I got the system free of air, and all brakes work fine.

    Handbrake was then connected up.

All door handles were removed to make it easier for paint.

Front door handles are held on with this clip.

I also finished makeing the brackets for the copy bumper.

Some cheap ebay grill will finish off the bumper here.

    Sunroof timing info

Not that you need it but...

In my case I just market before I took it apart, so I would know how far in the cables should be on reassembly.
There are no sensors on the sunroof so, all the "sensing" is done by that black cog, sensing when fully closed, fully open and tilt.

If the cable is timed wrong , It could have stripped the gear or the cable by pulling the sunroof towards beyond the endpoint . Just in case I used a very small SLA battery and low value fuse.
This is also the case if you are replacing a motor assembly, they have to be in a matched position.

They cables also have to be matched to each other, otherwise it would jam or worse.
