Nice work on saving the slam panels, they look like new now

What size blast cabinet do you have?

I hope everyone had a good weekend, I took advantage of the one day of sunshine we got.
So I have a little update. More odds and ends .

My slam panels were very very rusty.

All panels were taken back to bare metal.

Almost back to bare metal. A lot of this was done in my tiny blasting cabinet.
The panel was too large for the cabinet, but it was the only way I could get the scaley rust removed.

    High build primer

    Primer

    Base coat.

Then a few coats of clear coat.

Spring catch was removed and powder coated.

Fuel pump access panel, was very grimy

    Blasted

    Coated.

    More stuff coated.

Last week I went on a spending spree.

The drip tray was missing from the sunroof panel. Luckly Audi Tradition had one.
You can see the remains of my old drip tray below the new one.

This part is gone NLA from the dealers. Its available from Audi Tradition.

I also picked up these at the same time.

I also took a trip to the nearby Audi Dealer.

My cruise control during the test drive wasnt holding vacuum, got two of these.

I also picked up some rear bumper brackets, these were cheaper that for what I have bought s/h ones.

The seal over the headlights ,that are attached to the bonnet. These are expensive

Some various plastic bits. Sill clips and rear window c pillar cover clips

So that's that. I am making a little progress on getting the car painted. More on that soon hopefully.

Sample powder coat test worked out well. Looks like door pulls will look ok.

Please excuse my greasy finger print on the refreshed part.

POR15 is not really a paint as a paintable two part epoxy. I have not sprayed POR15 as is quite dangerous in sprayable form.
    Thats my feeling anyway.
Thanks. I won't be refurbishing the whole chassis at this point, just bits that can be seen through wheels, and will just treat the rest of the stuff to refurbish later. Thanks again, I will look into that POR15 definitely.

I hear about all sorts of cool stuff here, first it was "electrolysis" thing, which I will be using for everything that has rust on it ...and now about home powder coating machine, which I am too very tempted in getting.

But as you have used both, paint and PC, is it worth the investment? I want to refurb some rear suspension parts, I guess it would be better to powder coat them as it is more durable, at first I thought just get all the rust off, and then spray them black.

That sounds like a great idea.
    Definitely gona try it out.

As for offering powder coating services. It sounds nice , and I would be happy to do it but I aint no pro, having just picked up the gun 2 weeks ago also I fear the shipping costs might be too prohibitive. Maybe that could be dealt with parcel motel or something similar.

Irish - maybe you could offer the powder coating service to forum members? Make a bit of extra cash that you can put into your project. I'm sure a lot would be interested. A mail and return service

Funny that, I did think about it, but most of the visible fasteners in the engine bay will be stainless, and I was unsure about the effects of plating suspension bolts etc. So for the moment I have held off.
Most of my other existing nuts/bolts etc are all pitted and eaten away so there is not much point in derusting and plating them in any case.

I might think about going completely OCD if I ever do an RS2
