Looked over all connections and measured them with a tester.
    Everything seems to be correct.

    K-Line also gets pulled high.
I don't need any resistors between the cable and the K-Line?
Do I need the L-Line? I don't have it connected.
It's not temperamental regarding using a single ground for everything, is it?

I guess I can do this via trial and error, but it'd be easier if you checked your ECU and told me which wires you have connected.

      The L-line is mandatory indeed.
That was the only missing part of the puzzle. Got the ECU responding to OBD on my desk now.

Bit of progress on project ESIM........

        http://www.youtube.com/user/S2centra.../0/uKluuRwSRhE

Thats the noise our G4 and G28 signals would make at idle - when hooked up to an audio system - I am emulating them in PC audio software here. Bit more logic required to emulate G40 but that is very easy now I have the G4 pulse sync'd to virtual flywheel teeth.

The idea behind this bit of fun is to fool the ECU into thinking its attached to a running engine - while sitting on a bench - then its possible to simulate MAF, RPM and such along with other sensor inputs, while emulating in realtime to verify which maps are used when and in various corner / failure cases - because its there.

mmmmm - not quite - but I was cajoled into proving how easy it should really be to progress this better - only took a few minutes with the PC software to create the right shaped waves. Just not enough hours in the day.

Oh yeah - never a dull moment here matey - looking at 3B boost compensation maps til the wee small hours, writing PHP scripts, pulling hair out - exciting stuff.

just trying to unravel a few mysteries... and get my head round some assembler routines - if there is enough interest the variable launch control can be added to 3B but I am also looking at ways to add more boost and more safety margin on the 3B setups at the same time. Depends on how much interest there is for that and it would need a development car to do it properly....

                      G22

                      Hiya Paul,

Did you get any further on this? With the cost of RPI boards etc being so cheap you may even be able to build this using a daughter board and a cheap rpi.

I'm interested in the G22 work you did as well...with my situation I removed the dashboard so I need to convert G22 output to VSS, but based on what I understand from your post is that VSS is a square wave or nothing, the ecu is not interested in the frequency. Is that a correct understanding or am I wide of the mark?

I have a notion to try and move this forward... I just invested in some new electrical testing equipment for the bench and found the box of components that I bought ages back to build the various simulator circuits.

What would be really handy is if anyone has any old unwanted or even damaged wiring loom from 3B, AAN, ABY or ADU - as long as the main ECU plug has most wires in tact then it gives me a good baseline to start from. Hold on - we have a wanted section - duhh.

I have the remnants of my NF loom, but I don't think this will help. Let me know I can snap a few photos if you want.

It needs the 55-pin ECU plug - I dont think NF had that (but sure you mean NG by the way)

No NF is the engine I had before the ABY, it's the 1989 Audi 100 engine 2,3 NA.. but I'll look at the plug for you

NF plug is totally different. V8 and TDi 1Z wiring loom plug must fit.
