Result is that there feels to be a little more power, which I guess is because inlet temps are about 10% lower than with the previous set up. Quite pleased with how it's come out and a complete credit to the guy that did most of the work (not me!)

I quite like the sleeper look. Love going to a trackday and everyone assuming you'll be slow and then you blow their doors off! I big bling shiny FMIC gives the game away!
We've even sprayed the top of the IC black so that it blends with the grill!
Also now fitted some bonnet pins as I was paranoid the bonnet would fly off without the safety catch!!*1986 ur quattro,2.5 stroker

I'll dig them out tomorrow and let you know. It was also cheap....about £95 if I remember righly! Obviously had to pay someone to modify it but still way cheaper than a bespoke unit. it also had the internal cooling fins and even with running 2 bar of boost the inlet side is always stone cold, the inlet temp guage is much lower than before...*1986 ur quattro,2.5 stroker

Thanks!
About 15mm between the power steering pump pulley and IC. That sticks out quite a bit further than the cam/water pump. We ran with a camera on it as we were concerned with movement but most of the movement was rearwards thankfully.
However, to be belt and braces I have a set of competition mounts coming from the states (tomorrow hopefully as I'm at a trackday at Bedford Autodrome on Saturday) to make sure. We elongated the mount openings as much as we could to shift it back that few extra mm and held it in that position whilst we tightened everything up! Scientific or what??! it hasn't shifted but you know how these things are properly tested on trackdays!

and oh yes I am running a 6-speeder. However, we have a custom flywheel and so managed to remove the spacer which gave us about 8mm I think. The actual box is located exactly where a 5-speeder is but it's shorter from the driveshafts to the back of the box where the prop connects to it but this is easily taken up by the prop bearing. I've had no problems in 4 years running the box (touch wood!)

ok,this sounds promising for me then. I will run a normal UrQ 5 speed box with ABY engine. The only thing I want to avoid is using hood pins and keep the whole front stock looks. I will need to look for an alternative bonnet catch solution then.
Would be interested in the IC dimensions you used. Do you think you can make a copy of that top brace for me that holds the IC? That looks lovely made.
I just need to figure out if I will remove the old x-member and have a custom one made, as mine is rotten on one side and it would be an opportunity for the car to get a tad bigger IC maybe.
I presume you can still use the snubmount bracket on the x-member to keep the front of the engine down at WOT, correct?

There is nothing to tell. I was told that we would have to machine some of the block away for clearance but we didn't. It just went straight in.

You can avoid using hood pins. Mine are the flush ones that look quite cool. There are 2 points where the bonnet attaches so in reality it's quite safe.ok,this sounds promising for me then. The intercooler is from here:
It's the largest one they do. Dimensions are on that site.
I reckon we could make a copy of the intercooler top brace.
yes, the snub mount is still in use.Last edited by DamoM; 2 December 2011, 20:43.*1986 ur quattro,2.5 stroker

Well on a trackday at Bedford Autodrome tomorrow on the GT (4.2 mile!) circuit. So the proof of the pudding will be in the eating as they say!!
