I have no idea, so long as parts fit, possibly a lot!

If you want to use the stock Ur-q brake master you need to use a servo from any 1980-1984 vintage Audi 80/Coupe (with long master). The new stuff with short master will not work with old style master.
Another option is to chage the master to new style and that opens up a door to any post 1985 vacuum servo.

        Are you there??

        Any updates on this car?

On a youtube video of my car, you posted that your MRC Dyno results were "optimistic"

          Hi Angus

Yes quite a few updates. I was fed up with MRC. After lots of attmpts to get hold of them the car finally went up there to get remapped after all of the work had been done and for one reason or another they simply couldn't do it as the car had fluctuating boost and Doug couldn't find out why. He wouldn't let my mechanic (who had built and taken the car) anywhere near it and it was all a bit weird apparently.

Rather than go through all of this faff again we took the plunge and went for a Link ECU so that we could remap it ourselves (my mechanic is a competant mapper) and tweak it after any mods rather than trying to get MRC to do it. Link installed the ecu and made the loom so that we can run the Motronic ecu also as we are using the link ecu in other cars too - basically the loom has 2 ecu connectors.

It has transformed the car and we have installed toys like launch control and anti lag etc! It's great fun! See this video (excuse the swearing!):

The reason I said what I said about MRC's optimism was becuase we got Link to do a before and after dyno run so we could see the gains. They only worked in WHP as they reckon anything quoted at the flywheel is just fiction. The best WHP figure I had from MRC was 399 PS whereas the (improved) set up on the same map 'only' produced 295 bhp. That is a massive difference and the car actually felt a little quicker than when it was mapped at MRC. Something is not right there so draw your own concusions I guess.

Doug emailed me stright away (which is ironic as with all of the trouble I have had in getting responses to emails and phone calls this appears to be the best way to get a response!) and he told me off! I had a giggle because ultimately, whilst I was inaccurate with stating that their dyno was an old one, the figures don't lie nad it's hard ot see where the discrepancy comes from if the original dyno plot from MRC wasn't optimistic.

The new ecu inproved the outright WHP to 320 bhp but there were gains as much as 40 bhp at some points in the range. It drives very very differently and feels much much quicker. Still someway short of the 300 PS though...

We have dynoed the car on a different local dyno and the figures were within a few BHP of the Link ones so I'm pretty sure the MRC ones are the inaccurate firgures.

We've done some other things to it like fit a rebuilt S4 gearbox (with an oil cooler), go to vacuum assisted brakes (which has made an unbelievable difference to braking), fit a splitter, aux radiator (cooling was marginal) plus a whole host of other bits and pieces. The car is due another remap and we are going to try and get the same power but not at 2 bar of boost as the turbo is way out of it's efficiency range at this boost and plus lower boost helps with everything including (crucially) cooling.

How is your car doing? Have you got an independant dyno result?

My car is doing well thanks. Just sorting out a few bits and pieces like fitting a shift light, and thinking about fitting a rear ARB.

Updates are on my project thread, the car benefitted from a Ported head by JP/JNL racing, and then a re map by PRJ.

The engine is now an absolute peach! Next to no lag and revs out nicely. I recorded a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds on my performance box on my second attempt.

I got it rolling roaded at a local place where I have taken other cars and recorded 398 PS and 538NM of torque with a nice smooth curve(graph on my project page)

With the same turbo (GTX2867R) and before head work the MRC Dyno read 420 PS and 440 PS with my GT3071R original turbo. (Corrected power at the flywheel, dont know the WHP)

The car is just so much quicker and more drivable than with the MRC map, which to be honest just never felt right.

Now i know that mechanical maladies can occur, but these were checked quite thoroughly. Both figures were done with good wastegates (before or without a reconditioned one that mucked about)

BTW this is all with motronic.

Ref the video, nice! Know what you mean, i was a bit embarrassed because on the last dyno test of my car i was videoing on my phone and it hit the limiter and banged a popped like that, I've seen it before, but still caught me by surprise and I jumped!

I've just read your whole thread on your project (all 25 pages!!). Sounds like you've got your car to the point where mine is. It sounds like they drive the same. Mine feels absolutely brutal and on circuit (where I drive it most) it's perfect as there's virtually no lag and it holds the power well to the redline. It genuinely feels quicker than my 592bhp RS4.

I've put an S2 front ARB on the rear of mine (it was actually quite simple) to replace the s2 rear one (useless) that I had. It's transformed roll with no discernable difference in ride comfort...although that really isn't a priority for me.

My FMIC will not let inlet temps go much over 10 degrees over ambient...even at 2 bar. But it's seriously restricted flow to the rad.

The vid was of the launch control. It boosts 2 bar at 4k whilst you have your foot flat to the floor and sat still. It's so so loud! I did that standing start and no joke the blood all rushed to the back of my head and I went very dizzy! It blew my mind!! I need to get my Driftbox on it when we're doing that! I think the numbers will be mental!

Where are PRJ? They sound the nuts. Shame about MRC, think they've moved on from these types of cars

We need to get our cars (incl DJones) to a strip and get some times!!

Yes I am. It showed signs of stress when we took it off recently (the EM had a crack that needed welding) with some hairline cracks but not in important places if you know what I mean so I think that's evidence of it working outside of it's designed range and the reason why I want to turn the boost down a bit.

I have another one as a complete brand new spare (I bought 3 at once and one is in my RS2).

For those that are interested re the Link ECU I got it from Thor racing. They are in the Midlands. It cost £1800 including wiring in of the ecu loom to the S2 one that was in the car (it uses all of the motronic sensors except the MAF which it doesn't use), before and after dyno runs and full mapping session. You get the software (very easy to use). I put in switches for anti lag and launch and also a high and low boost switch. It's all so easy!

I really thought it was good value considering that was roughly the cost of 3 remaps with MRC!!

Thought I'd post an update on the car following some dyno runs.

In summary. Car was mapped by MRC and was shown on their dyno as having 449ps flywheel (399ps whp), and 633nm (466lbft) flywheel torque.

Car then had a series of mods including proper fmic, better inlet tract, improved oil tank and return, vacuum brakes etc etc. i.e nothing to affect engine performance negatively, just perhaps slight improvement.

Car needed a remap to take advantage of said improvments and went to MRC but for a number of reasons nothing was done.

Decided to go for an aftermarket ecu (Link) and had the car dynoed by them on a before and after basis on their dynapack dynometer. Dynapacks bolt to the wheel hubs and so measure hub horsepower and I think are generally considered to be the most accurate way of measuring the power of an engine whilst it is in the car. For the MRC-mapped Motronic ecu this showed peak (hub) power of 295bhp and peak torque of 371lbft.

Even taking account of the differences between hub and conventional dynos and different dynos generally, this is a substantial discrepancy.

The Link ecu showed improvements to 321bhp (wheel hub) bhp and 394Lbft torque.

Subsequently undertook a comparison run on a local (conventional dyno) with both ECUs (we have made the loom so that it can run either ecu as I am also using this ecu on other cars because you can run multiple maps for different cars). This resulted in 280bhp at the wheels and 330lbft torque. So now I am really confused!

I give up looking at dyno plots!

So what the plot shows is that the turbo is way out of it's efficiency range as it hits max torque and full boost so early and then just surges to the red line and doesn't hold power. The power pretty much flattens out after 4000rpm when it should really push up nicely. It needs to be changed. It's a great rally turbo but not a good circuit one and driving it hard will just break it. However what I don't want ot do is lose too much of the drivability and end up with a horrible laggy turbo.

I see that Djones was trying a different hot side housing on the same turbo but am not sure what the results were.

                            Any ideas??
