I wired up up anyway to test if it worked, works the wipers but doesn't change the trip comp so I'm guessing this one is either nackered or is just intirnaly diferent?

Thanks for the info, I'm on the hunt for an airbag stalk now then
Thanks to andyg for sorting me out with some ellipsoids

Which I popped the lenses off n gave a good clean, also fitted some new seals too

And I fitted them today on my lunch

Super happy with them! I'm halfway thru sprucing up my original fogs so they match a little better than the cheap repo crap ones I have on atm.
I'll be in the market for a hid kit shortly too, I also want fog and side bulbs to match also, can anyone recommend a full set up?Comment

Ok so I gave the tripcomp stalk swap tonight n here's how I did it
Started off by manhandling the 2 wierd twist nails out from tripcomp connector with a pick. Literally a right pain!

The 2 pain in the *** nails removed

Then the connector removed

Then removed both stalks from there housings by removing the 4 screws on the front. The ends of each were diferent so they have to be swapped too

You have to knock out this pin to remove then and be carefull not to loose the spring when pulling the end off the arm

The ends removed from both stalks

Then it all goes back together how it came to bits. Took about 20-30min all in. Heres the none airbag tripcomp stalk in the airbag housing

I've just been out and fitted it and the wipers work all fine but unfortunately the buttons don't change the tripcomp
massively disappointed! The wiring and connectors check out to be fine so I'm guessing it's the either the actual buttons or the tripcomp it's self.
So my tripcomp is still stuck on mpg

I saw a post on the "sooty" project thread about cutting wire tracks on the comp board to set which model/engine car you have. Does anyone know which ones, if any, I need to cut?Comment

Hi tom, when I first got this set up for mine I had to swap some of the wires to make the trip comp work, its like the wires were going to the wrong places. I can't remember where I got the info from but I definitely had to swap some wires. I'm wondering if your stalk has a different set up and now needs wiring different.

After swapping the stalks over and not being able to get my head around this swapping wires thing I decided to put the good LCD back into the autocheck unit and see if the stalk changed the tripcomp and..... Hoorah! It does! I then found this link
http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2789229
On how to install the autocheck system. I get everything but bulb monitoring (but I'm converting to hid's soon and I read this makes the monitoring redundant anyway) and windscreen washer low, but I didn't have that in the first place so I'm not fussed about it.
It's all in and working! But I've just come to calliberate the fuel range and the highest number I can get with the adjustment pot is 120something but on the walk thru on S2central it says a full tank should be 700.
Any help on this would be greatComment

My bad, didn't even think about the adjustment pot being relative to how much fuels in the tank, didn't even think they were connected haha. Gonna have to wait till payday until I can brim the tank to calibrate it properly.
But saying that, it's all in and working! I'm all bells'n'whistles now

As I mentioned before I didn't like the look of my original fog lights as they had gone dirty and yellow so I brought a cheap seat of Chinese tat that have lasted all of 2 monthsbefore both of the lenses cracking. Plus now I've fitted the super clean ellipsoids I need something that matches so I went ahead and decided to clean up my original fogs.
Here's how they started off, dirty, cloudy and yellow

Then I stripped the everything out of them

And put the in the oven on a low heat for 10 min or so... Needless to say my mrs wasnt too happy

After they've baked to perfection the sealant is soft enough to gently prise the lense away from the housing

With them split you can really see how stained yellow mine had gone

I tried a lot of ways to try and bring the housings back to life, polishing with cutting compound and sanding but nothing seemed to bring them up well so I decided to paint them. I used some plastic paint meant for plastic outdoor firnature
came up a treat and seemingly hard wearing

I also gave the glass lenses a quick sand and polish too, didn't come up mint but they look alot better than they did

I then stuck the glass lenses back on with some clear sealant that I've been using everywhere in our house called "sticks like s*it" and it really does live upto it's name

Gonna fit them up tomorow on my forever depleting lunch breakComment
