FYI: I was told by someone close to the project that the potential Swiss buyer had someone view/inspect the RS2 in question on his behalf before the sale was completed. So either the viewer/inspector was blind or incompetent or he didn't communicate what he saw correctly to the potential Swiss buyer OR the Swiss buyer heard about the issues and made a decision to proceed anyway.

Either way, I don't think the seller is at fault here. One man's "restoration" is another man's "Nice starting point".

        • 1. why you want to buy a car with as less miles on it as possible? I prefer to buy an rs4 with 250k then one with 100k who needs al the expensive costs...

2.Cars from Japan and accurate mileage forget it
I have a ssangyong musso with 120k on the clock seats, pedals and steering wheel look like my dad his volvo with 350k.... is needed it so i bought it and put my remaining budget in repairs.

          3.
Maybe you can check only with people who know the car, and maybe only because you need to receive the car to start to check !

          ************************************************** *************
If you pay 40k for a car then you just go to Garage de Vincy and say "how much do you want for cheking out that rs2 in Canada" and for 1time no language problem for the frencies vwautowork speaks French too.

          4. Swiss cars are one of the best available in Europe...so why buying a Canadian one?
I have a swiss one perfect thing tough my French one is the best bought it without seeing it when i drove it home i changed my mind to not break it it was 300% perfect.

          5. If you want a brand new one well yeah buy a shell and a complete one and let garage the vincy do their magic...

          6.
If some people, who are in Switzerland, want to see this car, they are welcome, i will give the car to the client this morning,
and he will bring it back, next monday, to continue the real restoration !
You can Pm me if you want...it's in VD more i don't know first i thought garage de vincy but your English is to good for that.

Anyway it's sold so just forget it.. If I buy **** it's my fault if I don't look at it myself..
          +1
If you take a seat you can feel if the mileage is genuine or not...especially when it's very low or high. (unless there is a new pair of seats in)

My opinion is as follows and I am sorry if it upsets anyone remember it is just my opinion.

That mileage is nowhere near genuine, and this must have been obvious to the seller if he has any experience of buying, working on and selling used cars. It is well known that it is common practice in Japan to replace or reset the odometer when they replace or rebuild a car's engine and it would be my guess that this is an example in practice.

Everyone's definition of "restoration" will be different. A restoration in my opinion should do just that - restore the car to original condition, or very very close. For me this was a good respray and detail - that is all. It is easy to present a car well in pictures and any serious buyer should know that. However comments in the for sale threads such as "This RS2 needs nothing and is like new!" are clearly not accurate. In that respect I would have been pretty pissed off if I'd driven 100 miles to view it based on the description, I would have been going mental if I had flown thousands of miles to see it. I would expect this dealing with a member of the public, not from a business who supposedly know & "restore" these type of cars and for that reason I think the car was falsely advertised - sorry.

Following on from that, why anyone would buy this kind of car over that kind of distance for that kind of price without viewing it or having it thoroughly independently inspected I find incredibly naive and frankly stupid. It's a used car, sold as seen with no warranty implied of given as far as I can see. So the buyer has no come-back - they should've taken a keener interest in what they were spending their hard earned on. Buyer beware indeed.

Regarding the public nature of this "disagreement" I'm afraid I don't have any sympathies. The seller chose to use this forum as a platform to show off their work on this car and "advertise" it for sale. That door swings both ways. Since it has been established that this is the same car in my opinion it is legitimate.

            My 2c
Thank you for this post, it's an answer with great wisdom

Fortunately for this poor RS2, the client have a true love for this car, and he will not counting the money he will spend for it !

I dont know if i will be authorised to put pictures and infos about it's real restoration on this thread ?

sadly open forums are like that, don't post your work in a public place and expect it to be private.

                    • What's make me sade is... That is impossible to obtain simple informations from the "restorer"... He don't want to explain what he done on the car, so we have to go blind !

For now, we ordered every parts for timing belt, whater pompe, leak from the crank shaft gasket, gasket for oil pan, etc...

Every parts is genuine Audi with the number of the car, to obtain warranty from audi

We dont accuse VW-Autowerk for everything, but, what can we think when we see new ugly things on this car ?

And seriously, where is the "one year restoration", we try to find it, but, so far, nothing appear except the paint job !

If people from France or Germany or Switzerland, come here and read this thread, maybe they can contact me, we need parts for this car !

                      • Start a new thread and delete this. It will help no one. If you buy stuff from audi it does not include any warranty as the audi does not put the in your car. So if you change the gasket not correctly it's your problem.
If your ware waiting a perfect car... look it rs2 America thread and you will see how long does it take to make a perfect rs2 that you expected to buy.. Just my opinion

                        • I know this thread and his great work on his Audi 80 !

About warranty, maybe you don't know that, but in switzerland, before you buy parts, you give the ID number of the car, and after that, you receive a total warranty, even if you do the work in another garage !

I had a big problem with the compressor of the air conditionning, the first intallation was in none audi garage and this compressor had problem, so an official agency do the work to change it, and audi paid for everything !

So if you change timing belt not correctly and the engine goes bang you get a new engine?

What parts are required for the rebuild?
