You shouldn't worry so much what other people think, its your own car after all
Personally I think it would be a shame to ruin an otherwise nice, rare car. I think you'll find all the negative comments on here, including my own are purely cautionary and from people who have a bit more to offer than just an opinion, and who really are just trying to help you to understand that in the end you will end up with a really bad car that will probably be scrapped when you realise quite how woeful it is!

I totally agree with Error404 plus it isnt anything personal against you.Like its been said its your car.Some on here might think its a boring car because its not an S or RS but i disagree.Its a B4 quattro saloon (a rare car) without the S2 engine.And they never imported the S2 saloon here,a real shame!! Think about what you actually have there.Forget about what journalists wright, they have to fire ones imagination and often overlook unfairly extremely capable cars in favour of the top models. So its a very capable car way way above sierras (yes i had 3 way back before that cortinas)When these B3 and your B4 came out they were so much better than the competition and some i have heard to say build quality bordering on the Mercs Bomb proof build reputation they once enjoyed back in the 60's 70's and 80's.I have run a fwd B4 2.6 fully loaded avant for 13 years which never goes wrong plus an S6 Avant and can say the b4 2.6 is a very capable car,is super smooth,very refined and quicker than most would give it credit 4WD accepted!! If you go ahead and dragg it, slide it, it wont appeal to those of us who know what is potentially about to happen to it. So it will fall between 2 stools not a proper rear wheel drive car or even the car it is now because it sadly wont be that anymore even if you put it back together again.
I know its hard as values are very low at the moment but the wise thing to do would be fix the rear end properly it wont cost much and enjoy the car in its beautiful unmolested original state.At least then when the values go up you will have a que of people wanting it.Look at whats happened to the bmw E30 318is G,H and J reg cars values recently having now shot up and people clambering for anything looking decent.

I'm sure whichever inevitability will leave me with a big grin wether a decent profit, or a sideways cloud of smoke ... But like I said above in all seriousness, this is just going to be phase 1 of the project, hopefully in years to come she will come off and on the road a few times, want to eventually end up s2/rs2 spec in a few years potentially, or maybe something a little different. Either way, I appreciate everyone's perspective, and only time will tell what will happen

Managed to give the old girl a wash, Hoover and chuck the 17's on. Not a massive fan of the wheels but wanted to see how she's drive on 17's.









Pleasantly surprised with how she looks in my opinion.

Will be looking for something else soon. If anyone's got anything interesting, let me know ?

Fingers crossed the locked diff as box will be here Sunday !! Got to do top mounts and a few bushes here and there. Getting there slowly !, and for a heavy front end, in 4wd she likes wet roundabouts

Just a quick update ! .. Locke centre diff was fitted at the weekend .. No teething problems, front shafts removed etc, is a bit sharper acceleration wise in 1st and 2nd, steering is a lot lighter, and pottering about normally she drives no different to before, no more under steer than previous.

If you press the diff lock button, she swaps ends faster than you can say Quattro !..

Really pleased with the outcome, now to do a few bushes, discs and pads, and then start on cosmetics

Also ! .. I've had a quick skim through on a search, but didn't know which one related, but has anyone found cheap coilovers for an 80 v6 Quattro ? .. Or a step by step DIY ? And do certain later models fit ? Ie. b5 coilovers etc ?
