I try to forget the money part. I would have stopped years ago if I had kept up with how much I have spent. My grade school football coach once told me that you don't marry for love......you marry for money. I think with the RS2 it is exactly the opposite.

      Do it for love! Haha!

Just in case everyone thinks I have stalled already - spent two days clearing out crap from the garage to make space for Lazarus. I have a decent list of parts found in boxes destined for other things that I will post up in due course.

Lazarus is looking mighty crusty round the front wings and roof corners at the windscreen but she drive into garage without any drama - took a few hundred meters up/down the street to get worst rust off the brakes but nothing out of the ordinary there.

I have almost completed a phased plan of attack for the old girl. Need to get some mobile jack stands and / or a cradle so I can move it in / out around other cars that will undoubtedly come up along the way.

I have some storage space to keep things out of harms way when all is stripped out.

Given state of the wings - I have to think seriously about the ABT "C5" wing kit and heck those lightweight doors would be awesome too but I am getting carried away.

Just some random pics of state of surface horribleness... not got the spanners out yet until I get rid of some parts and other garb in the garage that will get in the way. I think I will be ordering a cradle of some sort too before any real hard work commences.

The rust bubbles at the windscreen area worry me a bit, but after watching 6 episodes of Project Binky I don't feel so bad about it - just hope I don't find some horrible rot lurking underneath the car.

PS - the largest spider I have ever seen outside of a glass panel in a zoo is living in/around the driver side headlight - massive thing but I couldn't get a pic !

No doubt the result of poor removal in the past
Nothing that cannot be fixed though.

My coupe had mold/greenery like that too but washing it made me feel better.

LOL I was thinking of the same car

Yea, my front windscreen had de-laminated, and my original tailgate was destroyed by a fringe event.
The replacement tailgate had rust at the usual centre point under the washer, so like your windscreen had to come out.
                    Snowballed after that.

Yeah missus said I should grow mushrooms inside the car as some kind of Eco experiment but I am not of the same opinion.

Mine looked similar after 4 years sat in a hedge... a good wash and brush over makes it look 100 times better.

Got similar rust at windscreen edge too, but not as bad... some day I will get the screen out and sort it, but won't be this year

Here is something you rarely see on project threads of this nature - a plan and a budget - both of which we can collectively laugh at later and often when it all goes terribly wrong, but I've at least tried to make a decent attempt at this.

The coloured blocks on the plan are my guide for when that activity has to happen - around work, travels, kids etc - so its a very time extended plan cos of that and the funds have to be spread out as well obviously. Someone like Tonks would have it done in a month or two ;-)

I am sticking with the July 2018 target for completion (the cars 25th birthday) and took a view that having the shell completed and painted in July 2016 to be about right as roughly half way between now and then.

First target is Easter 2015 to have Lazarus stripped out in time for the cage man to work his magic. Once car is out of the garage then the other phases can start - somewhat in parallel depending on mood/funds and parts availability.

I have a lower level plan hashed out for the stripdown - I broke that into 4 parts so I could get my head around it - Front, Rear, Interior, Exterior - in that order.

The other challenge in all of this is having space to store some large items - my modest domestic garage isn't exactly geared up for this kind of thing but anyway... but the chassis cradle is absolutely needed to let me wheel it in/out while other Audis break around me - tis a fact of life.

Had the beastie up on axle stands last night in preparation for a good check underneath that there are no disasters lurking - rear subframe (surprise) looks worst on 1st look... photos to come.

Next job is actually to get the RS6 replica wheels cleaned up for sale along with five decent tyres - they actually look great on the S2 (to my taste) but they are rather heavy and larger than what I need.

I want a light set of 17" rims to run 45 or 50 profile rubber on. Oh crap I might not have included those in the budget so far - see the wheels are falling off already !!!

My only comment would be only paint it once you have dry fitted everything and have everything ready to install.
Otherwise you will be cutting, welding, chopping, drilling and scraping your way to certain misery

What are you suggesting - a euro trek in summer 2018 for LeMans and Ingolstadt trip via some tunnel roaring in Switzerland along the way ?
