Externally - she looks pretty minging as you might expect... Lots of imagination (and faith) required to see past that.

It's probably worse than it looks like. A good wash/clean and she'll look presentable

LOL - yeah I haven't been around much the past few years, and this project will be a slow one but I managed to get myself sufficiently inspired to breathe some life into the old girl again - hopefully I don't find it rotten anywhere significant which ruins the whole idea.

BTW - someone joked earlier about original tires on another thread... that front right wheel is the original Kleber spare - it has pure Ingolstadt air in there - so its extra special !

Hey Paul, great to see this car getting some love again. Its sad how quickly they deteriorate when sitting idle. I took the easy way out with my CQ20v and gave it to my nephew so its tearing up the country side not far from you.

                Cheers,

                Mark.

P.S. Was that you in the allroad waving at me recently?

Not guilty sir... its weird - everyone flashes us in the Allroad as its so distinctive (quite a rare bus now to be fair).

BTW - does your S2 have manual air conditioning ? I have all the bits to convert a B3/B4 to climate control from parts from a donor B5 - won't be doing it on mine and they will be silly money to post - so looking for someone on this island who might be interested... I will happily help with installation / conversion etc.

Thats so weird, I've passed it a bunch of times, northern reg plates, same colour, and always waves at me. Could have sworn it was you, good job i didn't give him the finger lol.

Mine has the "open a window" conditioning, though David might be interested for his avant.

Pass a message onto David (and my regards)... I cannot remember his forum name... we should meet up some time before winter sets in - maybe try and rustle a few other local lads up.

Good to see the old girl is being resurrected. Re greasing the sun roof and window mechanisms is on my list as I suspect I could have a similar issue

Paul, glad to see that you're starting a(onther) project. Hopefully this will help increase the frequency on the forum.

I need to grab my trusty toothbrush and a flight now to help you clean her up.

                            Couldn't agree more.

A bit of TLC can bring back any car from the brink

PS: Dont pop rivet a sheet to replace the sunroof You could be kicking yourself later on when the S2 coupe is worth £12k.

The sunroof itself could be taken apart and repaired.

It's going to cost me 9-12k to get it where I want it. I think I must be slightly mad as that kind of money gets a serious plaything with a Maserati 3200GT badge on it. But the fun for me is going to be building something - famous last words. Sure how much "fun" would it be to have a teenage Maserati in the garage. Lol. It's a cashflow thing anyway - reckoning to spend a few k per year over 3-4 years and try to make the finished article as unique and high quality as I can.

As for the sunroof - I kind of hate sunroofs anyway - I will be taking at out and blanking the hole with a plate made of alloy metal, fiber glass or carbon.

I set a target completion date for July 2018 as it will be exactly 25yrs since the S2 rolled out of Ingolstadt. Figured that is a good enough milestone that is far enough away to give me a fighting chance.

I believe that cost for rebuild as its cost me around that to rebuild the avant. It's crazy but you are right its more about the journey / process than the car. I was saving up for a Hopefully I'll have the avant on the road for its 20th next year.

I hate sunroofs too, but after rebuilding mine and seeing where the trouble was, its not that bad.
