I have no idea Dave, I've also removed a Sony Mini disc changer from the other side of the boot or trunk as you probably call it and the CD changer is 10 disc so maybe the first owner liked his music.

It's not the best location for it but it still works perfectly, in fact the sound system is pretty dam good and the Sony head unit is the kinda thing you'd get as a dealer fit in the UK at that time.

Where does the factory one live?

Edit, great at least you can see the photo's

      Enjoyed the collection story.

Hope you shake that cold soon.

Car should be a good distraction / incentive.

Possibly wouldn't rush at painting it too soon, as it will make it so perfect, you'll be unwilling to use it when ever you want.

Maybe nicer not to have it a complete garage queen, unless the Coupe is to remain as the 'daily'.

Not sure how Eric is going to cope with driving the Avant in the rain as it is so 'new'.

        Cheers Dave,

Yep. My Coupe is now my daily and is going to evolve a little over the next couple of years, got many parts hoarded. I'm not going to do anything with the body work on that for the foreseeable future, though it's highly likely I'll restore her one day.

The plan with the RS2 is to make the current paint look the the best I can by compounding, claying, polishing and fitting the missing door trim etc. I'll then use the car as it is for a couple of years before getting the paint redone to a very standard.

Their both keepers so I'm no rush.

I really need to sell at least my G60 MK2 this year, though it's likely I'll sell the engine/ gearbox conversion complete and put it back to being a stock eight valver. Standard cars are worth more and I'd get good money for the conversion.

            Sounds like a good plan.

Now I know why people with loads of money have numerous cars in their collections.

Although I rarely agree with the cars they have.

            Me, it would be

C4 UrS6+ Avant and Saloon in the the same colour, and I5s also

            Various B4s,

Mk 2 Golf Syncro with R32 with Rotrex and Haldex, Mk 2 G60 3 Dr Synchro for the noise, and a Mk 2 Jetta 4 dr with a Mk 5 2.0T with DSG for the street. A Mk 2 3Dr Jetta because they are rare/nice.

            Couple of E30s.

and maybe one or two others, and a giant garage and workshop at the house to house them.

Anyway back to reality, enjoy the B4s you do have.

Cheers, it is in smashing condition, even got the original floor mats in place still.

That was one of the main reasons I went for the car Dean, it's exceptional, also all the doors open and close like new suggesting they haven't been used a great deal.

I don't have loads of money Dave, I've just saved hard and picked up car's for the right prices over the years.

I'm also lucky enough to be able to do all my own maintenance, I'd never be able to afford my mini collection otherwise.

Very quick update to say thanks to Alex (Errror4040) and Andy Hands for the parts I collected yesterday, came back with a boot full of useful stuff, thanks very much chaps!

It was also the first long drive the RS2 has been on in my hands. Charlie (Cardcrash) came along for the day and we did a bit of tour of the north Midlands, up to Stone from south Wales, then over to Derby and we returned home via the M6 toll road and M54 to Telford before making our way back south along various A&B roads.

The car performed faultlessly and seems to be pretty bloody good on fuel.

Gearbox oil has been changed, am yet to do the rear diff as I can't free the drain plug off, going to have to get some heat on it then shock it.

Also had to change the high pressure oil switch on the side of the block as it was leaking quite badly, what a performance on a car with everything in place, had to take the fan off and it was still a bitch to get at then. Took a couple of hours to change it whereas it took less than 5 min's to get the new one fitted to my S2 off. I had to use that on my RS2 as I thought I had a another new spare but when I dug it out it transpired to be the wrong pressure rating.

                  Lets have a pic,

Good to see you Charlie and the RS2 mate, it's a cracking car and will for sure be one if the finest anywhere once you've sorted those few minor body blemishes. It certainly pulls well with 3 up

Thanks again for the parts mate.

I don't know, the paintwork seems pretty good on the pictures, but I know just how cameras can be very kind to poor paintwork, but she looks the bizz anyway, and it's not really what's on the outside, it's what's under the bonnet and how she drives which is very important...

My understanding is the UK cars all came with Sony hardware (dealer installed) at the time, so that is basically as factory original as you'd get, but I'm surprised that the changer wouldn't be hidden behind a rear carpeted panel or something. In my S6, there was a space behind a carpeted panel that the changer fit into and was hidden.

But, the RS2 Avant rear hatch area is smaller, and so maybe there isn't enough room.

But, keep in mind the factory head units in the urS6 at the time was made by Blaupunkt (which is SONY), and the factory changers at the time originally were sourced from Sony as well (was basically a Sony CDX-A610 10-disc changer).

The changers in '95.5 changed over to an Alpine based 6-disc unit and got an updated head unit (still made by Blaupunkt).

That older Sony stuff is really decent quality and was still made and sourced in Japan back then. Now it's all farmed out to China or lowest bidder.

I'd love that MiniDisc changer! That was a fantastic format. I'm shocked it never caught on, but I guess people had already invested so much in CD collections by that time, no one had a compelling enough reason to buy it all over again in a new format.

Cheers for the info, yeah old as it is the head unit is good quality, I've got no intentions of changing it as it functions perfectly. Unfortunately the CD changer doesn't quite work, for some reason the discs don't load, I need to take the cover off and have a look what's going on. The Mini disc changer does work and is available for sale, though Nuvo has first shout on it, the cover has a small crack but it's fine otherwise.

It was a London car so the paint is purely cosmetic, the car itself is very straight, no sign of any accident damage and I've had plenty of time to look.

It was a London car so the paint is purely cosmetic, the car itself is very straight, no sign of any accident damage and I've had plenty of time to look.

Well I'm sure she won't be as bad as all that, and by time you get to Scotland they rain and what not will dry to a nice powder on the surface, and won't see the bubbles, we've all got them like....and so have the cars

Not too long and we'll get to show off our beasties in the flesh, only Michael S2 has seen mine and he was over the moon with her condish, so am pretty pleased with that. Plus she's a leftie....
