BTW I think this tool will work with the engine in the car on an S2. I have had the front end off and and there looks like there should be room. I agree, it does appear to react the torque against the engine mount. I think this is very similar to the Audi one anyway?

:-) I'll start the bidding at a whole pound and we can haggle from there!! I like sexy tools :-), I'm prepared to pay for one of these for sure, my tool kit is growing seriously since I got this car! I need to get an extra draw section for my S2 tools!

Top mount tool, large torque wrench, 3/4 inch sq socket set for those stubbon parts! stud extractor, nut splitter, rounded nut remover, spline sets, tap n die set, pipe clip crimping set, long magentic pick up tool for when you drop stuff, half a million Torx drivers of all types and kin big hammer :-)

think mine was VAG 2084 but s2 central states VAG 3256!!, dunno if pulleys are same between 3b/aby

The official tool for AAN/ABY/ADU is VAG3256 (from memory and I think the 3B uses something slightly different - VAG2084 from memory). I do have the timing belt procedure written up somewhere on S2 Central but I think it is a blind link. I have the OFRM details on this !

Let me dig it up !

Last time I changed timing belt , I just got someone to step on the brakes with the transmission engaged. So then you won't need the crank tool...as long as you don't brake the tranny

And here is the cambelt tightening procedure for AAN/ABY/ADU

NOTE - there are alternate ways to get the desired 450Nm on the crank bolt which I'll post on later tonite. This info will come direct from Audi OFRM handbooks.

                    Cheers,

@Steffen - this is absolutely the wrong way to do that job as it puts a helluva lot of stress on the transmission. Quite risky in my opinion... I would use the crank lock tool.

the cut out in the 2084 tool fits round the snub mount, just behind the rubber part

What were the other things that get changed - apart from water pump, thermostat and front crankshaft seal?

I think the 3256 is only for urS4/S6 AAN engine because it has the snub mount located lower than others.
2084 for all typ89 I5s should be the right one.
                              (and t85 and 44)
