Apologies to Newsh for hijacking this thread!!

Big thank you to S2avant for the measurements and all others for their pictures.

I have a spare 3" modular port (76mm) kicking around from my big stereo days. Cost me £30 new but I've got 170mm of spare pipe so will have a look at fitting it to a standard S2 air box. Whilst the S2 air box is a slightly different setup, I think there is still something to be gained by alterring the air feed and so freeing it up somewhat. The larger top section is obviously there to reduce the restriction induced by turning the flow through 90 deg before going off through the MAF but I must assume that it is good enough to cope with the flow from a K24.

How far does the port stick out? looks like approx 50mm from the pics, taking the top to be 115mm as stated. It also looks to be at an angle which I assume is goverened by the interaction with the plate behind the light. If I do have a play I tyhink I'll custom fit it on the car and then get all the positions then.

Also, is the standard S2 cold air feed from the drivers light sufficient?

Anyone got an old S2 ABY box about that they want to get rid of? I fancy having a play.

" Is the standard S2 cold air feed sufficient...."
If you measure the triangular opening to the right of the headlight ...and compare to the area of the standard air intake - NO. Ok there are obviously other paths to the intake but they are secondary.... I have modded my intake by 1) Removing the front rubber strip on the bonnet so that air can pass above the headlight ( keep the strip at the back so that it "seals" the box).. 2) re-profiling the metal to the side of the headlamp to make the triangular opening as wide and smooth as possible. Use duct tape to seal and further smoothen the joins. If you dont mind the aesthetics, try running without the trim strip under the headlamp..... MK II golfs had to be modded like this too. One comic I read likened (the standard golf air intake ) to an athlete running with mouth and one nostril taped up. Why Audi went to such lengths to seal the rear of the primary air box withot sorting the intake side properly seems odd to me.
If you dont believe it, give these ideas a try..every little helps !
