UUUU!!! Exelent choice. I used to have one of those. It toped out at 195 in 5th gear on a revblocker. The bloke who sold it to mee saitd that electronics vas modified but i doubt it. Nice light easy to drive car. If I had a chance to buy another like my old one I'd take it always. Fuel consuption is like a zippo. Theonly problem I had was my wifes coplaining that she cannot take of from a trafic light when its raining. Other people told me that she's making burnouts. LOL! (she drives AEL quattro now). That was realy a car with no mantainance oil brakes an fuel. Drive safe. This one hates the corners.

Basic rules are supermini size, 1k budget not including tax and cost of MOT but all mods are included, car has to be quotes as 40mpg+ by manufacturer. Any mods are allowed including forced induction. Performance is measured against stadard figures and ring time is calculated on standard power to weight so any performance mods will gain you points. BUT max engine size is 1600cc and the mpg over and back is measured and compared to manufacturer figures. It's the classic tuning = power = less fuel economy. Of course stripping every gram of weight out is fine, as is having high tyre pressures etc. All cars have to cruise at the limit in the country you're in and you have to break 100 on the autobahn or at least hit Vmax. I'll have a look at the points mechanism again and make sure it works but it'll be more about driving to the 'ring and thrashing little cars than anything else!
I've had a lot of time to think about this!Cheers'en, AndyC

Thats a super little car you got there
My grandad had a G40 @ the tender age of 65,ten year ago and what a car, love this shape polo. A lad i know has a GT and it's that low the exhaust sparks
Looks very tidy.Did you put the steel wheels on cause i like them. I know the lads who own a place called widewheels and they widen steel wheels for V-Dubs and the Audi crew,They did Performance VW's staff cars wheels think they would look really good and then that would mean bigger tyres and better grid for the ring
I like the idea of the light weight race sort of thing you've been thinking of

Cheers Lee, these things seem to still have a massive following albeit amongst teenagers who want low and wide and nothing else matters.
I put the steels on, being a little geeky I wanted G60 15" steels but the Olops can't take 15s so easy so I remembered that the same style was fitted to mk.3 Golfs and so got myself a set along with the correct centres and bolt caps. Not seen the 14s on a car on clubpolo or polo3, most people go for mk.2 GTi / GTII 14" steels so good to be alittle different. These will look identical to G60 steels except that they're 14s and with the centres in hopefully people won't even notice that they're different. They're 6" wide and I've gone for 195/45R14 rubber and that's about the widest you can sensibly run on the mk.3 with up to 60mm lowering so I'll pass on getting them widened any further. You can run wider but it involves arch mods or rubbing and this is sensible daily ransport
Got a little more work and a good polish to do and it'll look great, engine is pretty sweet although there's no history with the car, just a few stories and a bit of evidence to back them up, bits are so cheap that I don't really car though.
I'll post up the £1k ring challenge closer to the time, it's already got a name "Rusty Ringers". Chosen by me for several reasons 1) the cars taking part will be 2) it's quite amusing in a pre-pubesent toilet humour kinda way and 3) my nickname is Rusty so it's sort of a bit egotistical...Cheers'en, AndyC

Let me know about the £1k challenge, I have loads of them. The latest is a proven 'ring weapon ..
It seems to have lost it's 1.6 litre engine. I'll have to replace it with something more suitable

Will this fit?

From Crusty the Alpina E36 which is that rotten the axle stands go through the sills.
BTW That is the entire engine wiring loom sat on top of it.

Sweet, is that an M50 conversion then Bry? Been trying to convinve a mate to go this route but he's decided to go from an M42 to an M44 with most of an M42 bolted onto it!
SOmehow I don't thing that a 316 is in the supermini class tho BRY and you'd get slaughtered on the economy run over there. Be fast round the track though if you've got the brakes and suspension sorted...Cheers'en, AndyC

Yes its an E36 Alpina M50 2.5 24v engine, loom, ECU, gearbox, radiator, propshaft and steering rack. E28 3.08:1 diff and engine mounts. E34 sump. Spal pusher fan. Ebay monster fuel pump from the USA.
Complete running gear from a touring and a wing, bonnet, sunroof and front fogs for £100 the lot!
Apparently these do 30mpg even when given the beanz and the boot is massive so bring on the LPG.
210 of Alpina's finest horses under the bonnet with the cats on, and an H reg E30 doesn't need cats :mischeif:
There is still room at the front for an ikkle turbo to give it 7psi max. Not much boost but the engine will take it without any mods.
We'll see how it goes as it is.

Lee, how much would having the steels banded cost? The rears are about an inch too narrow, could do with a 6.5" rim and then having the ET taken down from 38. Bet spacers will be cheaper but deeper dish steels would look good.Cheers'en, AndyC
