All Avants and later coupes use M14 bolts. Early coupes use M12 bolts which have been obsolete since November 2007. As Error404 says you can use the M12x75 from a B5. My apologies Bo, for not sorting them out when you needed them

Yeah, it was Rusty that brought it to the forum's attention after a near miss on a ring trip

Yes, found that one out to my great

10 laps of the 'ring teaches you a lot about what's weak on a car, there's no coincidence that car manufacturers test there!

The bolts are stretch bolts and are the 10.9 tensile variety.

M14 is 110Nm + 90 deg, I can't find the M12 version but it's lower, I think mike's site www.s2-audi.co.uk covered them or the info is on here somewhere... I copper slip the exposed threads to prevent corrosion to them but not the bolt/nut, a bit of corrosion is a good thing there.

I'm tight and don't replace these. I just torque them up to spec. I guess theses will snap one day when torquing them one to many times but as the nut's not captive it don't matter.

I'd replace them if i was to go round the ring though !

slight anomally to the stretch bolt theory - the same bolt is used on the inner wishbone bushes and the front subframe where 10mm bolts are used.

70nm + 90deg on the wishbone bolts and 35nm + 90deg on the subframe bolts. They can't both stretch with those different initial torques - explain that one
