Picked up a 1991 Audi 200 20V Turbo Quattro Avant for a daily driver/winter beast.....
My 3rd Audi, 2nd Quattro, and 1st Turbo....
Exterior:
-Pearl white in desperate need of a clay bar, polish, and wax
-Some chips and scratches here and there, paint chipped on edge of hood
-Black trim in good condition, needs a little clean and conditioning
-Body in good condition, little bit of surface rust coming through on hatch
-Underneath relatively little rust, especially considering age and its a northeast car
-Missing chrome trim above/below grill
-New windshield lat year
-small crack in taillights
Interior:
-Comfort seats, overall condition good, could use good cleaning and conditioning, power and heat work
-Floor mats/carpet filthy, needs a good shampooing and some all weather mats for winter
-All electronic bits work except for rear windows, rear wiper works!
-Headliner in good condition, not sagging
-AC/Heat/Defroster work well/blow well
-Rear accordion style cover included, apparently hard to find
Wheels/Tires:
-2 sets included
-Stock BBS (7.5"J x 15" ET 35mm) in Michelin XSE 215/60R15, curbage and dirty, good tread left
-ASA JH3 (7.5"J x 17" ET 35mm) in Blizzak LM-25V 235/45R17, need a good cleaning, great tread left
Brakes:
-G60 conversion up front
-Good pad/rotor life left
-New rear brake lines
-E-brake doesn't grab well, most likely needs 2 new cables
Suspension:
-Feels a little floaty (but everything does compared to my coupe on V3s), nothing horribly bad though
-could use some new upper mounts/bearings up front
-Boge turbo gas shocks/stock springs feel okay for a daily driver
Extras:
-Included full 3 volume set of Bentley Manuals
-Folder with receipt history but nothing added in since 2001
Engine:
-3B with 209,000 miles
-Completely filthy, must have been a leaky valve cover gasket at some point, oily residue everywhere, needs thorough cleaning
-Starts good, drives good but heats up quickly
-Wrong coolant and coolant issue, either blockage or exhaust gas pressurizing coolant (see below)
-Would really benefit from a good tuneup
-Cleared codes, several came back.......
2121-Engine Speed Sensor
2342-Oxygen Sensor
2111-Engine Speed Sensor
-Compression test results
Dry:
Cylinder 1: 175
Cylinder 2: 167
Cylinder 3: 165
Cylinder 4: 160
Cylinder 5: 170
Wet:
Cylinder 1: 202
Cylinder 2: 210
Cylinder 3: 210
Cylinder 4: 205
Cylinder 5: 210
Took it through an emissions test as is and it failed just barely, high HCs on idle......
So hopefully if i fix those codes and give her a good tuneup she will pass.
The one issue on the car that I really have to look into and I'm a little confused on at the moment is the coolant leak. The coolant will leak out from the reservoir at the point where the radiator overflow hose connects to to it once the car is warmed up. So its either blockage or at first i thought maybe the headgasket is leaky an adding pressure to the coolant system., but with those compression numbers seem fine. I haven't checked the thermostat yet but could a stuck one cause this to happen?
So do you guys think the leaking coolant from the reservoir and the high hydrocarbons at idle are related to a bad headgasket, even with those compression numbers? Some input would be greatly appreciated.
Goals:
-Clean her up
-Get her running nicely
-Use her through the winter
-Re-evaluate in the spring/ possible start thinking upgrades
