It's a good thought as yes the splash guards do foul the bigger disc installation, but I took out my splash guards when I did the upgrade.

I pulled all the pads out last night, gave them all a blast with brake cleaner (huge amounts of dust came out, urgh) liberal application of copaslip (I was running them dry as per Brembo's recommendations) and actually removed the anti-squeal shims completely to see if that will allow a bit more movement. We'll see.

If this doesn't work, I'm seriously considering replacing the calipers with something bigger. Any suggestions - I could retain the RS2 brackets of course: monoblocks with a bigger disc, or splash the cash and go a 6-pot AP route, what do you think?

Well I pulled the pads out again at the weekend and gave the whole caliper, discs and pads a thorough cleaning out with brake cleaner and a wire brush. The quantity of cack (technical term!) that came out was staggering. Re-installed the pads with a disturbing quantity of copaslip applied to both pads and anti-squeal shims, gave the calipers a quick bleed (some nasty looking cack came out of the bleed valves!) and, well, fingers crossed, but the vibrations and squeal have gone.

It seems to me that maybe these calipers need regular attention to remove all the grime/ dust/ mank that builds up, and that that might help prevent the vibration issue starting up?

i had a nasty squeal shortly after getting brand new big reds, turned out to be the wheel bearings. When driving on the motorway the play in the bearing allowed the disk to rub against the pads. It sounded exactly like the real brake squeal that came from my corroded little reds.

Shortly after replacing the wheel bearings the squeal came back, which turned out to be due to the wheel bearing bolts not being done up tight enough i.e not 200nm + 90º turn. The whole wheel had at least 10mm of play and the caliper was actually rubbing against the disk! Rather worrying when 30 minutes before discovering this I'd been doing 120mph.

Since installing new bolts done up to the correct torque, no more noise.

I second that. I had the big red conversion as one of the calipers would always drag. Drove away 'same noise'. Answer wheel bearing !

my brake groaning has gone still had it after replacing disks and pads ,i noticed a faint mark on the new discs and it looked like one of the pins was brushing it when the disc warmed up.filled them down again and cleaned everything up.
coated the shims in plastilube and now i have no noises at all not even squeel as befor
at low speeds .one thing did worry me the pads were crumbling in the centre .
im using brembo 323mm 996 cal and textar pads. brake performance aint good ie no bite
but only done 100 miles so might get better ,might try a better pad .

just had the same brake noise probs with my 996/ds2500 setup, drivers side would moan once warm. Took everything apart and cleaned up (pins, plates, pads etc) and all is well with a good lube up. Check also that all 4 pistons move freely while u are in there... It looked like the dust and cack had built up generally which stopped the pads moving freely on the pins that they rest on and the retaining pin across the back of the caliper. Definately going to keep my eye on them every 3-6months to ensure all is ok. What i did notice was that the wear on both pads and discs is minimal given that they have been on the car over a year, barely any real wear to speak of.

I have had 3 years brake noise when driving

the are 3 things that could cause this problem

1 Brake pads that doesnt fit well in the caliper i now use the original Texstar in
the caliper.no bite but no problems

2 brake hoses that are old i bought 4 new ones

                            3 one of the brakepads {inside}of the rear calipers did not move {S2 problem }
because of that the brakesystem held more pressure .

The DS2500 pads are quite miraculous in my opinion - they chuck out disgusting amounts of brake dust, bite well and have mad braking power, and yet they work from cold and seem not to wear out! How do they do that?! Well worth the money (stuck record time again!)

Anyway, as well as the regular de-cacking of the calipers/pads and greasing them up good, the other "solution" that was suggested to me a while back was to smooth off the edges of the pad backing plates to allow just the tinest bit of extra breathing space within the caliper guide plates and that certainly seemed to help.

Guess what guys...... I have it now!!! As per a previous thread (cheers MattS2 for pointing me here).

I have had the pads out, calipers off, re slipped everything and still got it and it's gettign worse. Only happens when warm (i.e. long journeys or lots of town breaking) and seems to be just the drivers side. The pads have started to squeal a little now too.

Even just been up the road (145ml round trip if that is up the road) to see uncle Corey. Happened all the way up then hey presto when I got there and he took it for a drive NOTHING!!!!! Stripped it all off anyway, took it out for a drive and nothing UNTIL!!!!! Pulling back into the yard and bobs your uncle it happened (phew) Tried a few bits and went on merry way home...... Got about 10mls away from The uncle and jees it came back worse than before, and stayed this time till I got onto the A46 dual carridgeway... then hit again even worse still getting onto the A46-M1 road. All the way home..
Worried now as the drivers disc is showing signs of blueing (only done about 1500mls in total on this setup and it only started last week.

                                Thoughts!!

P.S. No wheel beraing play in the wheel when you try to wobble it the whole leg moves!!
