Calipers retail at £445 inc VAT each
Brake pads Retail at £188 inc VAT
Discs i cant see the price for tho

Pads and Calipers are Code 2, getting them a very healthy discount from those in a position to be able to get it!

Good stuff with those calipers, they look mighty!

However... I don't want to ruin the celebrations, but putting a bracket on a bracket is not good engineering! Sorry!! You really need to make a one piece solution guys, then I'll be really impressed!!!

Nevertheless, that is a setup to be proud of!

Point taken, however, the right angled bracket is supplied with the caliper and our bracket is simple and effective, and could be produced within the timescales given.

A fair point. Ease of fitment is one reason we took this route. The other reason was that the caliper carrier has a corresponding bracket on the other side of the caliper which we assume is there to add rigidity to the caliper. By retaining the two brackets on each caliper they should be the same on both sides.

An elegant one piece solution would be the best setup but I don't have the time, money (or patience ) to develop one. At the end of the day I have fitted the brakes before my suspension overhaul so that any weak points in the setup can be identified and ironed out.

This is the first time any of us have done a setup like this so we will need to see what works and what doesn't. There is a chance that something will break on the suspension when the brakes are used in anger, only way we are going to find out is if I act as guinea pig.

I wouldn't dream of suggesting everyone goes out and copies my setup or that this is the best thing you can fit, or even that we have designed the best setup. This is a project after all, it might work, it might not.

I can understand the concerns on a bracket on a bracket but i can't see a problem with it.

The setup isn't as extreme as Lee's setup and his suspension legs too my knowledge held up fine.

Might be worth digging up his old posts for a reference

Lee bent his front legs and redesigned the brackets to support the legs in some way. He was using wider / soft tyres aswell.
We will find out in due course what needs doing where.

                        Hi Ben !

Amazing bit of work there ! You and the guys are credit to the "always more/never satisfied" motto !

Could you let us know how the 300x22mm rear brakes upgrade goes ? AFAIK a rear brake upgrade exists for the coupe ( S2Central - Paul ) but there's none for the Avant due to a tricky handbrake mechanism

Take care and thanx in advance !

Going by Lee's profile he had 6 pots with 362x36mm discs. Chances are the clamping force of the 8 pots is higher. Maybe not a lot higher though.

As Bry said, Lee's problems stemmed from his wider tyres. Much more grip meant that the forces had to go somewhere. With my tyres the wheels should lock before anything can bend.

It will basically be the same setup that Paul is working on. The handbrake mechanism is the bridge to cross but I have a few ideas to try out. I'm waiting for the 2007 S4 calipers to be released as they are painted black (how sad am I? ) Once they are available I will get a set in and we'll work it out.

Quick question, is it possible to machine a bracket that mounts over the two lugs, so the lugs are inside the bracket?

Would it work or is it a brain fart moment?
