i had this on my 996's a few months back, i think it came to the conclusion that the pads where not moving back from the disc due to dust and cr*p on the pins and especially on the pad retaining pin, it was really crudded up and i had to give it a good thwack to get it out the caliper. I just chamfered the pads, cleaned everything up, used a good load of copper slip and everything has been fine since, infact they seem to work much better now than before, more positive so i guess the bite was being compromised by the lack of movement/return. Pads and disks seemed unaffected in as much as no scoring or excessive wear so thats a result, just something to keep an eye on a couple of times a year.

I've been having similar problems too and was just about to post a new topic when I saw this. At least I'm not alone! I'll take the brakes apart over the Christmas period and give everything a good old clean, copper slip and take a file to anything that need it. I think I've got a wheel bearing on the way out, either that or it's my rear diff... Oh well! Need to get it sorted as I want to do a track day at the beginning of next year! Donnington seems like good value at £99!

Ok sir! What do you mean wax? Surely I need to put some of that green hamerite gel on there to get rid of the rust first?

So glad I brought this up... I really was ******** myself when I first heard the noise, it sounded terrible as if something metalic was scrapping along the disk and making it ring!

So cooper grease on the pin, clip, back of the pad and chamfer the edges of the pad???

I had this annoying noise too with my 968 boxter conversion (looks like the same)

After cleaning and scrape the pads with a file it's almost gone now.

I think it happens when the caliper is not exactly mounted in the center.

I worry that because the pads slightly overlap the edge of the disk the noise will happen again as the pads wear down Maybe its just a case of chamfering the top edge of the pad every 6 months or so?
