    Really nasty dirty brake porn

    Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

Looks like crossed drilled discs being a waste of money for a change. That'll be getting a new set of discs and pads then...

Said it before and I'll say it again, cross drilled discs are all show, Grooved are all good, x drilled no thanks!

I'll be replacing the x drilled on my car when I have some cash ( LOL ) to upgrade the front brakes.

I too have said it many times....X-drilled are not only just for show, but in fact will cost you more, as they need replacing almost as often as the pads. They are only worth while on super light track day specials like an Ariel Atom or on bikes where you want large disks but minimal rotational mass (gyroscopic issues there too).

X-drilled were invented to deal with old pad technology to minimise the effect of pads gassing-off, and modern pads haven't been prone to that for nearly 2 decades.

On a heavy car, X-drilled brakes give virtually no cooling benefit, no noticeable weight reduction benefits and significant reduction in braking performance due to a reduction in the swept area. Oh and the chew pads and crack if you look at them

Rip them off and put standard ones on, even grooved are not worth it.

            Cheers n

            Si

Yeah... we gave up on the micrometer to measure the thickness and considered using a microscope on the sliver that fell off when I sneezed under the car

Never had a problem with discs cracking, but considerable agreement with the chewed pads - don't (yet) have a photo of those, but will do at some point - the wear is... interesting. Perhaps unsurprisingly am finding/considering/evaluating (alternative) options for discs (which might be the topic of another thread)...

We dimpled my discs (well Pete did, on his drilling machine ) I reckon you get a bit more bite. But then the Ferrodos went in at the same time.. The Textars with plain discs were well wooden feeling.. I'd never do that again.
