OK, now you see my problem, my mechanic tells me that my pistons are measured at 32mm and 36mm but I cannot find a Brembo caliper that fits that description. The clues as to which calipers I have remain the following: -

The calipers are black (with porsche logo)
They bolt up to a modded SEAT carrier and a 314mm A8 disc
I run 996 pads which fit perfectly
The RS2 damper pads do not fit (but cannot remember if too big or too small)

I wonder, could he have measured the pistons at 32mm & 36mm but Brembo actually measure the diameter of the cylinder that the piston runs in? Clutching at straws I know but I need to get this sorted.

Who has a set of 996's on the shelf that they can measure both pistons and cylinders for me?

                  Cheers n

                  Si

P.S. @Le S2 Audi: what is in a caliper repair kit? (2 seals and 2 dust caps?)

The problem as I see it as a outside source is the rebuild is going by the mechanics measurements rather than the Porsche part numbers.

Personally I'd buy one of each ( 36 and 40mm ) and try them, if they dont work take the caliper to porsche and ask why they don't fit.

Also verify the part numbers of the calipers that are embossed on the underside

                      Si,

Has he measured INSIDE the pistons? as you are exatly 4mm out on each piston?? You really need to A; get me a picture and I could tell by looking at one... B; find out exactly what your guy is measuring and with what...

How is the pad held in... Is it a bolt through the top of the caliper or is it a butterfly looking unit??

This what a 996-351-425/6 looks like...

What I am thinking is could they be RS2 calipers??

                      Which look like this...

                      thanks Spink... knicked his picture..

If they were rears they would have a dimple above the P & E...

Thanks for the pictures, mine certainly look like the standard 996's and finally after a bit of cleaning I can confirm that I have 996-351-425 & 996-351-426 front calipers, so **** knows what the mechanic measured but I am now fairly certain that I need kits for 36 & 40mm pistons (I can feel an I told you so coming from a certain mod ).

So now it is down to speed of delivery against price.

@Le S2 Audi: what quantities are actually in your quoted caliper repair kits? Is there enough to do a whole caliper? and how fast could I get hold of them?

                        Cheers n

Si, as I listed there is enough to do a caliper in each kit...

So you would need 2 of each size...

I can't say how long until I phone them on Monday.. But I bet you they will have to order them.. I WOULD SAY IT WOULD BE A WEEK BY THE TIME I PICK EM UP AND POST 'em to you..

Have you seen the group buy on the DS2500 pads for these calipers, if you are refurbing them...

Just to clarify my postion on the parts & prices I listed...

As I have just said to Si,

I will get them to help peeps out on here...

But I'm not starting to actively sell them as I would then have to make something out of it to cover my costs and shipping charges etc, and then you can end up upsetting some peeps on here...

Si, You're welcome by the way.. I have enjoyed doing the research...
