I just use "Coppaslip" on the backs and edges of the pads. Threw the anti squeel plates away when the sticky stuff gave out, they squeeled with them in anyway.. Well, more of a droning noise as said, which goes away breifly when you dab the brakes, have had no problems for ages now thou using copper grease.

I have an awful squeal on braking in the RS2.
I don't know if it's needing new shims, cleaning out brake dust, or making sure clearences etc are all as they should be.

One thing's for sure, I definitely want to get it fixed!

If you don't have these, it is worthing the expense of getting and fitting them. Worked for me and transferred to new pads if careful.

Once it's fixed, the financial pain of the shims will soon be forgotten.

Obviously making sure the other items already mentioned earlier in the read are also not contributing factors.

Well worth seeing it through as the brakes are a very worthwhile upgrade. Tried and tested also, so it's got to be fixable it you keep at it.

Keep the thread updated, the forum's here to assist.

        Kind regards.

get some of this stuff...its fantastic. http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...m20b918s2014p0

I have to say though, using 996's means there is some routine maintenence that needs to be completed every few months to clean and lube everything....time invested but keeps them running sweetly i found.

RS2 carriers? Have you had the disc OD turned down at all?

Old greymatter remembered about the RS2 disc size being 304mm rather than 314mm and some of the original conversions using RS2 carriers had the disc OD reduced. A newer kit with 996s might be different; seemed worth asking though, so we know what's what.

You know they're probably worthless, you should just get rid of them. Tell you what I'll ship you my coupe brakes (Girling 60) and £200, then you can just send me your Porsche brake setup.

Good chance it will be the stainless shims in the calipers, The older RS2 type calipers are prone to corrosion behind the shims, This stops the pads being retracted, Anti squeal shims are the same as those pictured above,

have you got the part number for these shims i remember mine having a sticky pad on so you could stick it to the back of the brake pad so i might have to `butcher ` them to get them off!!!!!!!!

QUOTE=Big Lee M;576006]Anti squeal shims all the way buddy...... I got mine off eBay for £15 there we're advertised as boxster one but I got the par number and they turned out to be the right ones. They may be about £40-£50 from the dealers but it will stop the noise. Mine do it now and again with the build up of brake dust a quick wash and everything's fine again.[/QUOTE]

OP said 996 calipers which I thought did not suffer the same problem as the RS2 baby reds, being aluminium monoblocks

It's very strange you have to do this with the 996, with the GT3's I've never had any of the problems I had with the 996's on my old Coupe, they don't squeal and are rock solid

                          Upgrade to GT3s!

Jamo....it needs to see some usage first With the ds2500's and previously using copper slip, i found they really gunked up.

I've cleaned and now lubed all the critical areas with ceratec and we'll see how they go. Plus...i'm OCD on the brakes i guess its fair to say
