Hey Lee, impressed (of course) with your front brake setup having seen it in the flesh at the London meet yesterday. Was a bit concerned at the clearance you've got between the caliper and the inside edge of your alloys though - can't be more than about 2mm there? Is that ok - are there any expansion issues with all that heat being generated?

I need a big shed, maybe I should have done that before the brakes!!

When I bought my car the intention was a long term project...kind of a demo car for my engineering capabilities. For a basis I looked at many cars and in the end decided that I wanted 4WD, Turbocharged engine, a chassis with a pedigree and most importantly be european (not JAP or something with a Chav following). The S2 was the only thing that matched my budget. Standard S2s are crap in many ways but spend 20grand on one and you will have something that will punish almost any road legal car (supercar) you will meet on the street/track without compromising on comfort. It is a cheap way to get an imensely capable vehicle plus the advantage is that everything can be done in stages as monies are available. You could get close to the end result by buying a Lambo Gallardo on day 1 but youd be £100,000 out of pocket and it wouldn't be as much fun getting to the end result (Engineer speaking here!!). I know you would turn more heads bu thats not the point....thats for epople with small d!cks. OK, the looks of the S2 are not great but this is about capabilities on street and track for me. 3 years on I am glad I chose the donor car I did and there is plenty more funky stuff like this to come. My S2 is never going to be for sale to anyone.

    Nice bit of engineering Lee

It's amazing that the S2 has such a hold on people that they consider spending £2600 on brakes when that is the price some of the cars go for!

Well worth it though top class brakes are worth more than a shed.....

This is the new Sport COntact '2' that have only been out for a year or so...considerably better than previous designs. These are now an exceptional tyre. I haven't experienced any squealing at all even when spanking it. People know how I drive too! LOL!

Agreed Slim, Avon ZZ1 were naff. LIke driving on an ice rink in the dry under power!!

I currently use and highly recommend Continental Sport Contact2 tyres. Very good in wet and dry and exceptional under braking. I found the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres would not be as good when worn as they were new. I too suffered major sidewall issues and had to throw 2 of them in the bin due to split sidewalls. Contis are cheap too and were even cheaper than Toyo Proxes in 235/40R18 size. As good as the awesome SO-2 in the dry but the Contis excell all around. No wonder they are standard fit on many Porsche and Merc models these days.
    LOL

My only experience of Continental tyres was on my brother's chipped Rover 620Ti, which had a frankly stupid amount of torque for a FWD car. Given that it was a completely different car, my only take home impression was that they seemed to produce a lot of tyre squeal? Certainly I watched a big Merc SL pull away yesterday at not a great hurry and his rear wheels squealed... Ok, so not the reason to choose, or not, a performance tyre, but hey!

I guess they'd be pretty stable under braking as they have those solid bands around the entire face of the tyre? (tyre geek alert)
