Of course it was a private test track. Hve seen 160+ on GPS with my tiny K24 turbo too!

I currently use and highly recommend Continental Sport Contact2 tyres. Very good in wet and dry and exceptional under braking. I found the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres would not be as good when worn as they were new. I too suffered major sidewall issues and had to throw 2 of them in the bin due to split sidewalls. Contis are cheap too and were even cheaper than Toyo Proxes in 235/40R18 size. As good as the awesome SO-2 in the dry but the Contis excell all around. No wonder they are standard fit on many Porsche and Merc models these days.

It was when I tried braking past the 50m board that I ran out of track...well, needed all of it to stop and no room for turn in. Great laugh that was and the Marshal in the shed looked upset. These new disks are much more fade resistant and the groves are helping prevent glazing. Overall braking power is increased with this new setup. A few people didn't believe me about the Ferodos when I was bleating about them a long time ago. Now that a few have tried they have realised they are worth the extra.

THose brakes still fit behind my OZ Vela 18" wheels. 19" would be more comfortable but now that lower profile "tuner" lead weights are available the 18s are fine.

Was doing some tests last week and a slight stab at the brake pedal over 155mph (on GPS) would lock up my 235/40 tyres!!! Mighty stopping power and dead stable even with the stock rear brakes. Watch this space for when they get done!! Then we will go for a similar attention to detail in the power upgrade stakes!! LOL.

Welcome back? Nice to be back! (Doug and Tom did about 2000 posts each in the few months I was away!)

    Cheers mate,

    Lee
Things are good, have been fairly quiet on the forum myself of late, too much work and not enough money to spend on the S2, but there you go. You are completely right about the Ferodos, I'm hooked on those pads. With your setup you'll have to worry about people behind you more than what's in front of you now! I think your tyres are going to be suffering pretty heavy abuse now too? What black stuff are you currently on - I know you had had some major sidewall issues with the Eagle F1 GSD3s?

I hope your 155MPH run was on a "private road"?! Impressive top speed for a 1.9TDi

@ Lee - crikey mate, I remember you telling me at the Bedford track day that you were planning something impressive, but I think you've really out done yourself there, nice work! What size wheels would you need to fit those behind?

If I may give some indication of what Lees brakes were already capable of: At Bedford, the main straight, Lee and I were both touching 135/140mph on the main straight, with a major braking zone in to a 2nd gear left-hander (it might have been 3rd gear, can't remember now it was a few months ago). Versus me with my 4-pot; 304x30 EBC Red setup, which is a major improvement over stock, Lee was braking an entire distance board later than me and still making the turn in easily. I think Lee was braking at what, 75, or was it 50 mate (I think you ran off when you tried to pull that one)?! I was braking at just after the 100 board...

If this is a "significant" upgrade I would love to go on a track and see what they can do! All power to your boots mate, good work. Not sure I've quite got that much spare cash to burn on the S2 now, but it was Lee who convinced me to go up to the Ferodo DS2500s over the EBC Reds and they are certainly a distinct improvement.
Good to see you around here again.

He has close on 500bhp too so he absolutely canes his brakes and they take it in their stride.

Yes they cost a lot but they are extremely long lasting. These disks will outlast the RS4 ones by about 4 times! My mate has an almost identical setup on his RS4 and has done over 10,000 miles and about 6 trackdays without any sign of disk wear and the pads are down about 30% from new. So, probably quite cost effective in the long run plus the advantage of awesome, consistent performance without commpromise.

I think your grand for parts is a bit of a low estimate...All in cost well in excess of £2600 for my setup although there are many alternative caliper and disk options that are more cost effective. You don't get the best for nothing!
    Fooking hell!!

    I was waaay out!!

Like they say, if you have to ask you can't afford it!!

Keep up the good work fella.

*starts looking for a cheaper brake upgrade...*
