I'm at the point when I need new front pads and discs for my standard '95 RS2. Any recommendations? I won't be doing any track days and I've found the standard setup fine. I have had a look at the EBC groove discs which look OK. I will be doing the job with a friend so would like any advice you have. Should shim pads be changed at the same time? Thanks

Are your discs 304 or 322mm?

They are the 304mm (I think). I think the brakes are from a 968CS?? I have never changed pads / discs before but don't mind a shot. Quoted around £1600 for discs and pads all round which is a lot of beer! I quite fancy something like cross drilled or grooved if there is something around.

I was trying to keep the bill below 1K if possible! Maybe this is an essential upgrade that could be passed through accounts as an essential safety improvement? After all it's family transport used daily 20K miles per year?? How much for a big reds full kit? I was hoping to save money by getting advice here - not digging deeper into my pocket!

I don't want to name the garage but it is in central Scotland and it was all using genuine Audi (rip-off) parts. The brakes have been no problem but they have recently had a few squeals and they are getting low. I had to slow down today from around 140 to 40 quite quickly and there was a long grating noise hich I've never heard before. The price I quoted was inclusive of VAT - I am not averese to spending a bit extra for good discs/pads but just feel that the quote was slighty too high.
