I had a caliper sticking that caused the condition you are describing. I found it by driving the car & braking normally for about 20 miles of in-town driving & then checking the temperature of the rotors & finding the hot one. The rotor & brake pads were only slightly discolored when compared to the others.

I've been playing with the brakes this morning. Swapped the two discs over as the vents were the wrong way, checked and cleaned everything including the hub faces, disc bell and wheels and the problems still there. It gets worse after a hard brake and there's more temp in the system

I can visually see the front right disc has about 0.5 - 1mm of run out on one face, could this cause a severe judder?

Rear discs don't look competely bedded in yet either.

All discs were the same kind of temp so I don't think anything is sticking on.

If you can see runout then it's the discs I reckon. My brakes did this after the car had been sitting for a few months and there was rust on the discs. I bought new discs and problem solved. If you're on Porsche Brembos you can get A8 Brembo discs on ebay for not too much money and they work a treat.

ive got the movit discs currently, so not too sure what would fit... I was looking at the porsche 2 part discs, about £120 each and just swapping the bells over as i think this is all movit did, but obviously need to check PCDs etc.

Do the A8 discs work on the 993tt calipers?

my discs are currently 323mm diameter with a 60mm drop height on the bell, what i can make out that is the same as the S8 discs, so I'll get a pair of them this week and see what happens...

0.5 - 1mm? anything more than a few thou is too much, id say this is the route of the problem! Get the bells skimmed to make sure the mounting face is true, cant see the rotors being that far out!

0.5 -1.0 mm is just insane, you can feel 2 thou .05mm quite bad, can you see this with it all bolted up with the wheel on ? I can't understand how this is possible. Are you sure you don't have floating discs ?

Yea, you can just see it with the wheel bolted up, might not be so bad with the wheel on though.

They're 2 piece discs, ill put a pic up but I don't think they're floating lol

I thought I'd just check the bolts on the disc and as soon as I put some force on the bolt it sheared straight off...grrreeeaaat!

Think ill pick some S8 discs up in the week, they seem the same bell height, dis etc and hope they cure the problem.

I could get these skimmed again somewhere professional but ill have the job of getting that sheared bolt out and I don't exactly trust the others any more

If you can visually see runout they will feel horrendous

How are you checking the runout?

only checked visually! as i could see it moving, didnt see much point in getting a dial gauge out.

I take it you had the disc machined with the bells attached. Its possible that they have some distortion. Obviously depends on how they were machined. Must admit I have been looking for someone to surface grind mine rather than skimming them! Without much success!
You could get them skimmed on the car using Pro Cut. Larger tyre places often have them and that should take into account any issues. Thats probably going to cost as much as new cast discs though.
If you go for the cast discs you may need to source some washers to recentre the caliper. Don't forget its not the total height that determines where the disc sits, its the disance from the bottom of the flange to the bottom of the disc.

yes, the discs were machined with the bells attached. they haven't been touched and all was fine with the brakes before it all came apart, so my monies on the skimming wasn't within spec.

Newsh...could you measure the thickness of the S8 bell mounting face? I've got all the other dimensions off a suppliers website. seems to match the dimensions of my discs

If it needs modding i have access to a bridge-port at the weekend so all will be fine

interestingly...the caliper isn't dead centre now, i thought it might need shimming.
