Thanks very much mcandmar, but how on earth do I get under there... I can't figure out how to get the glove box out... Then I need to find access to the grommet in the firewall...

Have you got A/C or not? Given your difficulties I imagine you've got A/C in which case you unbolt the glovebox side rails to get the glovebox out. Access to the loom grommet is difficult (impossible?) with the A/C evaporator in the way but you can follow it through from the engine side where you'll see the rubber grommet with unused nipples on it waiting to be cut open.
I must admit I added my wires and vacuum hoses when the whole heater unit was out for a heater radiator replacement.

Thanks John.

CC now mostly installed.
I'm hoping I find the matching connector for the 3 pin blue connector on my CC loom.
If it exists, where will I find it? Where on the loom in the car does it come from?John Bowlerwell

Thanks.
Tell me, the control unit has 2 connectors going into it, and also has a single spade connection... What is that spade connection for?John Bowlerwell

Paul,1 - T6j/6 to brake light switch via Red/Black connector into T10b/5 (Brown 10-pin connector in rear harness)
2 - T6j/4 to fused side of S12 in fuse panel (black/blue wire- shared with reversing lights)
3 - T3b/3 (White/Blue) to VSS on T26a/18 (Blue 26-pin behind cluster) supposedly via T10a/9 (Black 10-pin behind cluster). This is the famous white/blue vehicle speed signal (VSS).
1 - I can easily access the brake switch
3 - I can fairly easily access the VSS (Assuming it's the white wire with the blue stripe, rather than the blue wire with the white stripe)
2 - Where can I best access the fused side of S12? This should also go into the instrument cluster as it powers the ABS warning light? Or should I attach straight at the source?John Bowlerwell

Help needed with Cruise Control
John,
I have just retro-fitted CC on my 1994 ABY and guess what it doesn't work first time!
I've done the tests of the vacuum side and that all works OK now after a few tweaks with the pipes and the brake pedal switch. I've continuity tested all my connections and all is well there, then I looked at your post again (what Paul calls as 3 flying leads) and wondered how you connected these in. I notice Paul uses different connectors but the functionality is the same.
1) E45/6 - red/black - I soldered this directly into the brake light switch for brake light signal- did you?
2) E45/5 - black/blue - I soldered this into T26a/16 (blue connector behind dash) for rev counter signal - did you?
3) T6v/4 - white/blue - I soldered this into T26a/18 (blue connector behind dash) for speedo signal - did you?
My chief suspect though is the CC stalk because when i put right indicators on main beam, the full beam light flashes. However, your (and others?) help would be of great benefit as it is now beginning to send me demented!
Cheers
JB

I retro fitted cruise to my 95 coupe (a long time ago now) Mine didnt work to start with then all of a sudden it stared working
Probably wont work on yours as you have probably connected it to different wires but when i put my blower motor (fan) on, it cuts out my cruise. If the blower is turned off it works fine
My car has air-con, if i switch it on (the blower automatically goes onto speed 1) the cruise works fine

Ah....my a/c ain't working at the mo....anyway sounds like you have a gremlin there!
CC is supposed to be standalone but it is these little booogers of "flying leads" that are a PITA. Anyway reading through other posts, my stalk needs a good dose of looking at......just hope it all doesn't disintegrate when i take it apart
Any answers on the soldered leads....most appreciated.

I did the CC retrofitting on both my RS2 and 1997 Cabriolet.
I can tell for sure that I did not connect anything on the rev counter.
Black/blue goes AFAIK on the +12V according with the schematic in pdf below.
Also I would'nt bother to go on t26 etc plugs behinfd the dash everything it's more handy and easy to find.
I follow the pdf from meckisforum that you find attached, for the istructions I just used the google translator german>english and it worked chop chop.
Mind the contacts on the stalk, they get bad if the stalk it's old, on the Cabbie I simply soak it without open it with contact spray cleaner.

Hi John.
Sorry for the slow reply.
I've just been trying to remember exactly where I connected all these wires...
1) I think i connected this next to the brake light switch. But this should be easily testable with a multimeter.
2) I made no connections to the rev counter signal at all... This might be your problem... black/blue wire is a 12v power supply - fused side of S12. I can't remember where I found this, but I think it this is the power supply to the instrument cluster?
3) white/blue is the vehicle speed signal, and I think I found it on it's way into the centre console, because it goes to the DIFFLOCK switch. But behind the instrument cluster is a perfectly good place to get it.
Hopefully that's useful.
If you need anything else I can go and dig around to find out exactly where i connected to.
JB
