Ok, my car has now been VAG tested and it did not throw back any codes. They found a very corroded water temp sensor plug so that was replaced but that did not fix the problem. I told them about my concerns with the Hall sensor but they had very little time for suggestions from an amateur and forum members. Shall I just take the car off them and do the Hall sensor myself? With a little help from friends! But it does mean I start throwing parts at the car in the hope that it fixes the issue. Risky cost wise but maybe thats the only way forward.

    suggestions please!

    Thanks all

Considering the amount of people that have said hall sender I think you should take our advice especially of those who've had the same symptoms

Did say Hall Sender won't throw a code, it never did for me once replaced it worked fine.

One last thing; can someone confim that part number 034 905 161 is correct for my 94ABY (taken from above link)

            Thanks

PS, Thanks for Bo for pointing out that I'd be wasting money getting a new bracket.

That part number is for the bosch sensor and bracket. If you by the sensor on its own it will save you a tone..
I dont know the part number though and bet Audi dont sell it by its self.

Just spoken to TPS, GSF, ALS and Audi and all say its roungly £150 and comes with bracket.

It is possible to get sensor only (HME301) but can only find them in America, (below link again and google).

Any ideas where I can find the sensor in the UK or is a 2nd hand one any good for now?

                Thanks all,

You can source them locally or buy the sensor from a bosch dealer

Thanks Jamo, just tried to pull my fuel pump relay out and the outer casing came off in my hand, ie not water tight etc.

You think I check that first? Cos if the Hall sensor is indeed working and trying to fire a dead fuel pump relay then surely I have the same problem.

If the relay is well in there ..it will be stiff to come out and outer casing will slide off...I think I have 1 hall sender(just sender unit) still kicking about ..£20 and its yours..you need to wire up as in link

                      Cheers

Attitudes like that from so-called professionals really hack me off... The assembled expertise and 1st hand experiences on this forum from all corners of the globe would trounce that of any aftermarket specialist you could care to mention.

Admittedly there are a lot of clueless ********* on 'max power' stylee web forums so maybe we get tarred with the same brush, but this attitude of ignoring suggestion from 'amateurs' on a web forum is so short sighted and plain rude actually when they don't take the time to look around and see the skills on show here.

Did they think a dozen people suggested hall sensor by some random guess? A test on that device takes about 5 ****ing minutes if you know what to do with an oscilloscope or can wire up a fricking LED the right way round... but then that would make it too hard for the 'professional' to bluff a ******** story up into 2.5hrs labour of 'diagnostics' to stroke you at 90 quid per hour plus VAT.

Of course, none of the professional garages will ever send messages to me or anyone else to thank them for free information that has been provided online over the years - along with wiring diagrams, detailed system descriptions and whatever else. Oh yeah, we are just amateurs who know ****all... I forgot !
