Anyone know if there is an off-the-shelf control unit to upgrade the interior light delay to fade out like on more modern motors? Alternatively I guess some kind of simple circuit could be knocked up to do this? (not by me obviously I havn't got a clue lol)
Any ideas?

Is it possible to use a central locking pump from a newer car maybe a b5 for example? This is only a sort of educated guess as I think I remember reading somewhere the lights are controlled by the central locking pump? I could be completely wrong though
B5 is the best bet as its the closest family member and pre-dates all the wonders of CAN-Bus. Happy to look at schematics later in the week when I get more time.
The interior light is controlled by the central locking pump . You have a processor there but you need to make some reverse engineering to do the fade out.

COrrect about CL pump... that is generally closely integrated with factory security stuff as well so you could be into key fob transponder swaps etc but that isn't insurmountable.
What about on the early cars, such as my 1991 coupe. Is the CL pump involved in the interior light function that long ago? Sorry for the thread hijack, but if so, something suddenly makes a great deal of sense.....
Certainly in the 3B the CL pump deals with the automatic courtesy lights, I had a wire break under the carpet in mine, just below the dash on the driver's side, took me years to find and fix it

If a simple low pass fade circuit with an RC filter cannot work then a wee 555 circuit would work. Ther are other options out there too. I won't have time to look into this for a couple of weeks. Good project for my son actually ! I must have a 555 and some other components lying around.
